NEWS: Oris Introduces New Big Crown Pointer Date

Oris had a busy Baselworld this year, introducing new models across their range of families, including a new in-house caliber in the 114. More on those later, today we’re taking a look at the new Big Crown Pointer Date. This was caught our eye for a few reasons, most notably the design that packs a lot of detail into a cohesive and handsome package. Tasteful dial color and size options make it all the better.

Let’s start with the case. The Big Crown Pointer Date is offered with 40mm and 36mm case diameter options, either being perfectly reasonable options for male or female wrists of any size. The tops of the lugs are brushed in their finish, while the case walls are polished. The contrast works well with the intricate coin edge bezel and cathedral style hands. As the name implies, the crown is robust, but hardly oversized. If you have issues manipulating the crown on most dress watches, this one should be a breeze to operate. On the dial, we get the full suite of Arabic numerals marking off the hours, and a date track rounding out the perimeter of the dial. Also evident in the name, is the presence of a date pointer (Oris is very thorough in their naming convention, leaving little to the imagination). The black and warm grey dials get a red pointer while the green dial gets a white pointer tracking the date.

Inside, Oris is using their own module atop a Sellita base caliber (SW200-1) to handle the date keeping complication via the fourth hand. A relatively nice bit of kit considering the sub $2,000 price point. On leather, the Big Crown Pointer Date is priced at $1,600, while a steel bracelet will add $200 to the package.
