It’s been 2 years since Oris introduced a limited edition dive watch called the Carl Brashear to their popular Sixty Five divers watch line. The watch, which is named after the U.S. Navy’s first African-American master diver, features a case made of bronze and a deep blue dial under a domed crystal (we talked about it in this post). The watch proved popular among enthusiasts and quickly sold out, appearing in the secondary market for a hefty premium. The inevitable follow up has arrived in the form of the Carl Brashear Chronograph. The bronze case remains, as does the blue dial, and now the watch welcomes a dual register chronograph and bronze pump-pushers. Again, it’s a limited edition, so you’ll want to get your name on the list now if you want a shot at getting one.
The newest Carl Brashear is fitted with the Oris Caliber 771, otherwise known as the Sellita 510 automatic chronograph movement. The caseback is closed so don’t expect a view, but you did get a lovely engraving honoring Carl Brashear with the likeness of dive helmet, and a quote that reads: “It’s not a sin to get knocked down, it’s a sin to stay down.” Each caseback is also individually numbered out of 2,000.
The case is bronze, and as such, each will age differently. Even the chronograph pushers are bronze creating a uniform look throughout. The caseback, however, is steel. The case measures in at 43mm in diameter, and if you’re curious as to how that’ll feel, check out our sizing guide right here.
The Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph is limited to just 2,000 examples and will retail for $4,950. StockX will have open a product page for this watch in the coming weeks, so if you miss out on getting one from your local dealer, or simply want to move yours, you’ll be all set.
