In this list, you’ll find some top-tier movies and TV shows that are guaranteed-bingeable as well as the clear influence that sneaker and streetwear culture currently has and has always had in film culture. 

Space Jam (1996)

An all time classic no matter the age. If you haven’t seen Space Jam yet, we’re frankly concerned and if you have, turn it on next time you’re looking for all the nostalgia feels. From Looney Tunes to Michael Jordan, it has something for everyone. 

And you know Michael Jordan’s big movie moment had to be loaded with iconic sneakers, but the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam is one of the most iconic colorways ever. It’s been retroed twice since the original hit the market, with each iteration continuing to sell well above retail price.

Love and Basketball (2000)

Because who doesn’t love a feel good love story? The Nike Kobe 4 takes us back to Quincy and Monica on the USC court fighting for the playoffs and their relationship. Luckily for them, and for us, they both go pro and so does their love story. Spoiler alert! How their career goes from there is a whole other story. 

Uncut Gems (2019)

If you’re down for a roller coaster of emotions, this is your movie. The Safdie bros made sure that you are at the edge of your seat the entire time wondering what’s next. You never really have the chance to feel secure throughout this emotional journey but it’s so worth it. If you don’t want to watch for a surprisingly good Kevin Garnett supporting role, then watch for the Furby Pendant, a true IYKYK product.

Akira (1988)

The 1988 Japanese animated manga film is sure to go down in history as one of the most important anime films of all time. You’ll be following the journey of a Japanese teenager that discovers new telekinetic powers in a post-apocalyptic world with plots focusing on anti-government activists, greedy politicians, and powerful military systems. The Akira-inspired skate deck that was released in Supreme’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection gives the film Supreme’s stamp of approval proving it must be too good to miss. 

Forrest Gump (1994)

From the college football field to literally all the way across America, Forrest Gump’s running game was legendary. Yours can be too with the OG Nike Cortez featured in the film in your closet. Nike continued the momentum of the Cortez by rereleasing this shoe on the 45th anniversary of Forrest Gump. All that’s left to say now is to “Run Forrest, Run” and watch this classic for the zillionth time.

Dior & I (2014)

If you’re down to shed a few tears but ultimately end up feeling more inspired than ever before in quarantine, Dior & I is a must. Get an inside peek on how the legendary Raf Simons overtook the Dior Fashion House all while building a personal, emotional connection to his vision and the Dior brand. As for the Dior Jordan 1 Retro High, this was Jordan Brand’s first ever collaboration with the Parisian fashion house, a historical moment in fashion and sneaker history. And now more than ever, you start to see the fusion of luxury and streetwear and the outcome is simply beautiful, Raf Simons would be proud. 

Back to the Future  (1985)

When you’re in the mood for a nostalgic Sci-Fi binge, don’t skip the three films from the Back to Future trilogy. The Nike MAG is a limited edition, self-lacing sneaker designed by Nike as a replica of the shoe featured in Back to the Future Part II. If the sneakers don’t convince you to watch, the time-traveling DeLorean should be enough to make you click play.

Scarface (1983)

Scarface is almost always going to make the cut on any movie binge list. In this film, you get an insight on Miami’s true criminal underworld through Tony Montana’s life as a gangster during the ‘80s. Another film-inspired Supreme collection means this flick is a definite must-watch. The Supreme x Scarface collaboration features original imagery from the movie and Tony’s infamous inspiration, “The World Is Yours”.

White Men Can’t Jump (1992)

The Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrleson 1991 classic is absolutely loaded with iconic sneakers on the basketball court. While many think ofThe Nike Command Forces, another pair that stands out is the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” which continues to be regularly seen on streets today. In 2019 Nike re-released the model and it was one of the most anticipated releases of the year, making this sneaker even more relevant than before. Join the winning team and add a pair to your rotation.

Do the Right Thing (1989)

One of the most important sneaker moments of all time, and perhaps Spike Lee’s most important film, the 1989 comedy-drama Do the Right Thing shares a story about racial divides and stereotypes during a scorching hot New York summer day. The most iconic scene features a pair of brand new Jordans getting scuffed which was then further immortalised by Jordan Brand when the shoe was released with the scuff included. 

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness

If you still haven’t binged the Netflix Original Tiger King, take this as a sign to do so. From raunchy music videos to missing husbands, this docu series will have you wondering what is truly wrong with big cat people. The show goes into depth on the running feuds between Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic and the captive tiger tourism industry. And for all you cool cats and kittens, the Air Max Atmos Animal Pack is still a big flex you can wear in honor of Don Lewis (RIP). 

Neo Yokio

Neo Yokio, AKA the greatest city in the world, is built on the innovation of global fashion and finance and features a family of “magistocrats” demon slayers. Throughout this American-Japanese TV series, you will catch many references to high fashion through Kaz’s character as he is defined as an “elegant man of taste.” Think anime Gossip Girl with Santal 33, Met Gala, Ralph Lauren Purple Label vibes in one show. In the opening scenes of the series you get a detailed look at Kaz’s 1919 Cartier Tank which sets the precedence for what to expect from his style throughout the episodes. Plus Jaden Smith is the voice of the main character, Kaz – that should tell you this show is a next level, tastemaker binger. 

Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z is a cartoon classic. Take a walk down memory lane and relive the childhood days spent watching this on Cartoon Network for hours on end by binging the series as an adult. With nine seasons of Goku adventures, you can choose to pace yourself and watch an episode here and there or go full Super Saiyan mode and binge all seven years of action. Add Funko Pop!s of all the DBZ characters to your collection so the gang’s all here and you have a full-nostalgia set up on your hands. 

Game of Thrones

If you’ve got nothing but time during this quarantine, we recommend all eight seasons of Game of Thrones to pass the time. If you’re not familiar, GoT a cast of powerful families fighting for control of their kingdoms and the “Iron Throne” on a mythical continent that they call their home. Full of plot, drama, magic, violence, and life-lessons, this is definitely an hours-a-day binger. Abstract: The Art of Design

In Season 1 of Abstract: The Art of Design the second episode is focused solely on the sneaker legend Tinker Hatfield. We have him to thank for many of our favorite silhouettes and designs that are considered some of our biggest prized possessions, especially the Jordan 3, one of Hatfield’s most famous designs. In this show, take a look inside his creative life and if you make it through the first season, you’ll come across many more creative geniuses along the way. Whether you’d like to tune in just for the Tinker Hatfield bit or stay for the entirety of the season, you’ll be sure to walk away with a better understanding of design and creative minds at the end of it.

The Mandalorian 

If you have Disney+ in your streaming rotation and are looking for a change of pace from your typical shows, lighten up the mood with The Mandalorian. This show emerges from the Star Wars Universe and is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order for an exciting twist to the Star Wars series. The Star Wars x A BATHING APE collaboration features Baby Milo next to the Child and the Mandalorian as seen on the TV series. And because we obviously will take any excuse to buy Baby Yoda gear, this BAPE x Mandalorian tee is a strong cop. 

Stranger Things

A thrilling binge, now’s your chance to catch up in time for the next season so you can be in-tune with all the memes. Within Stranger Things, you’ll find top-secret government mysteries, supernatural forces, and of course there’s always a love story. If that sounds on brand for you this is your show. This show will give you an inside look on the differences of hip-hop culture from the East Coast to the West Coast, and of course you’ll be able to spot a variety of sneaker and streetwear references throughout this binge. The cultures are very much intertwined, and the classic Air Force 1 is just one example of these two cultural marriages.

My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is a show based on a manga series that holds over 25 volumes. The overall storyline of the show revolves around a superhero-obsessed boy who lives in a  superhero-populated world. Throughout the show you will find out what it means to be a true hero as Izuku Midoriya does. Entourage

With Entourage listed as LeBron’s favorite show (among many other athletes), of course there’s sneakers all over this show. The very popular HBO comedy-drama series is a guaranteed mood booster during anxious times like these. In this sitcom, you’ll follow the journey of a humble, suddenly-famous film star living in a high-profile world with his best friends from back home. If you’re looking for a laugh, nostalgia for some early aughts fashion disasters, and a feel-good time, you can definitely find it all here.
