Supreme collaborated with The North Face last week, releasing two new summer-ready jacket styles and vintage-like pigment printed crewnecks, t-shirts, and sweatpants. But in a surprising turn of events, The North Face collection wasn’t the star of Supreme’s Week 14 release. The Supreme Bandana Camp Cap stole the show, dominating the best-selling charts. The black colorway, the most popular of the Supreme Bandana Camp Caps, has nearly outsold all colorways and styles of The North Face Jackets that were released last week combined.
The Supreme Bandana Camp Cap was made available in five different colorways and continues the brand’s Spring/Summer 2021 fixation on all things bandana patterned. Supreme has already delivered 29 pieces featuring a bandana pattern this season and they’re not even done yet. According to the streetwear brand’s Spring/Summer 2021 Preview, there are still five Bandana Bucket Hats (or “crushers” as supreme is calling them this season) that have yet to release this season. By the end of this month, it’s likely that more than 30 bandana decorated Supreme pieces will have been released already this year.
Supreme’s big bandana print season started in Week 1 with the release of the Faux Fur Bomber Jacket in February. That jacket was then followed up with Bandana Tarp Bags and three bandana colorways of a Supreme Small Box t-shirt. In May, Supreme took the design even further, dropping five colors of a Silk Short Sleeve Button Down Shirt. For those looking to color match their Supreme Bandana pieces from this season, black, pink, and red are going to be the easiest colors, considering that not every piece was made available in the same color options.
Spring/Summer 2021 is the first time since Fall/Winter 2019 that Supreme has elected to use any kind of bandana print and that season saw the widest usage of bandana print in recent Supreme history. Late in the Spring of 2019, Supreme released three pairs of collaborative bandana print Clarks Wallabees and then in the following season, they poured it on even thicker. Fall/Winter 2019 saw the release of several popular bandana designs including four colorways of a Bandana Fleece. As the holidays approached in 2019, Supreme doubled down on the design, releasing their Bandana Box Logo Hoodies and T-shirts in back-to-back weeks.
There’s more to the Supreme Bandana Camp Cap’s victorious Week 14 than just the hat’s popular pattern. The Supreme Camp Cap was once one of the brands’ most popular apparel items, garnering a significant boost of cultural influence after being integrated into the early uniforms of members of Odd Future. In what was an undeniably huge moment of exposure for the brand, Tyler, The Creator wore a Supreme Camp Cap in his unfathomably popular “Yonkers” music video, which now has over 130 million views on YouTube. The popularity of the Supreme Camp Cap exploded around that time and while it’s certainly cooled off since then, it’s not abnormal to see a more flamboyant Camp Cap spend some time as a best-seller on StockX .
