Supreme is at it again with their seasonal shenanigans, previewing whatās likely one of their more limited and expensive accessories of the upcoming season. A full-size, functional Supreme Bobsled has officially been teased to release this year via an Instagram post from the brand in which a two man sled team can be seen taking the sled down a run. The video is filmed as an action shot from cameras on the sled as it makes the bobsled run in what can only be assumed to be a good time. As SS21 rapidly approaches, this teaser presents far more questions than answers and weāre absolutely here for the chaos, and excited to welcome this new Supreme accessory with open arms.Ā
For those unfamiliar with bobsledding, itās a sport often observed at the Winter Olympics where several members of a team will take a sled down a track or run in pursuit of the best time. The sport originated in the resort town of St. Moritz, located in the Swiss Alps, which hosts the worldās oldest bobsledding run in the world and had to ban sledding on public highways in the 1800ās due to too many collisions. The Supreme Bobsled finds itself in an interesting middle ground here considering itās probably more likely to find itself flying down a ski slope than an official run in the Olympics. Little to no information has been made available about the Supreme Bobsled so far, making it difficult to speculate about pricing but according to a relatively loose internet search, the average Olympic bobsled can cost upwards of $50,000 USD. If the Supreme Bobsled costs anything near that figure, this would undoubtedly become the most expensive accessory the brand has ever released.
The Supreme universe and its relation to the streetwear labelās most expensive accessories is intricate. The Supreme actually hinted at the release of their Bobsled last season via the release of a t-shirt that hardly even resold on StockX. While it seems obvious now, the Supreme Bobsled L/S Top, which can now be purchased for below its retail price, featured a graphic that looks to be taken directly from the teaser. This isnāt the first time that Supreme has hinted at the release of a big expensive accessory via a t-shirt that seems meaningless at the time, either. In SS18, Supreme released the Chair T-shirt, which featured a graphic of Knollās iconic Wassily Chair and one year later, the two brands officially released a collaborative version of that chair. The Supreme Cupid T-shirt which featured imagery of the streetwear labelās SS19 Meissen accessory shares a similar relationship to the Chair T-shirt and the Bobsled Top, though the Cupid Statue released a few weeks ahead of the t-shirt instead of after. With a little bit of imagination, Supremeās past t-shirt releases can be seen as a hidden National Treasure-style scavenger hunt to determine the brandās next expensive accessory. Maybe Supreme is planning to release an actual life-size Tupac Hologram, or perhaps thereās a future where the brand delivers a red Goodyear Tire, and thereās even the possibility of a US Air Force Jet if theyāre looking to make something even more expensive than the Bobsled. Predicting Supreme Accessories is no simple task but whether itās to tease with conspiracy or simply provide fans with a more accessible piece of their most expensive accessories, the higher-pricepoint accessories pretty often end up finding themselves on t-shirts. For those who are finding themselves excited about the bobsled but donāt have several tens of thousands of dollars, this t-shirt can be a happy consolation prize. Now we just need a t-shirt for the Supreme Pinball Machine.
