Two weeks in, Supreme Fall/Winter 2021 is looking like a solid season. In Week 1, the brand released several bangers from new Rick Rubin and Shrek T-shirts to a Dog Bone and Pyle Waterproof Megaphone. For Week 2 of Fall/Winter 2021, Supreme seems to have dialed things back a touch, delivering what appears to be the first half of their Yankees collaboration and a few other pieces from the lookbook. While some Yankees pieces are worthy of mention, the highlight of Week 2 is the Supreme Carrera Overtop Goggles.
For those not familiar, Carrera is an eyewear brand rooted in sportscar racing. The name, Carerra, is derived from a specific race titled the Carrera Panamericana, which was a notoriously dangerous event held on open roads in Mexico during the 1950s. Carrera, the brand, was founded in 1956, two years after the race was officially and indefinitely cancelled due to safety concerns. In the 1970ās and 80ās the brand would go on to become a Formula 1 racing sponsor. Carrera Sunglasses have also found themselves featured in a number of popular movies, appearing on Al Pacino in Scarface, Sylvester Stallone in Cobra, and Chris Hemsworth and Daniel BrĆ¼hl in Rush, a Formula 1 biographical film.
For their collaboration with the storied brand, Supreme elected to revive one of Carrera’s more elusive models. The Overtop Goggles are ski goggles made from one rectangular shade and feature a venting technology that keeps the air from flowing into the skierās eyes. The Supreme version of the Carrera Overtop Goggle features a mirrored logo on front as well as two rubber logos on each side of the elastic strap. The two red and black colors of the Supreme Carrera Overtop Goggles were made exclusively for the streetwear brand in Italy.Ā
While itās likely that Supremeās relationship with Carrera stems out of some kind of shared interest in racing or skiing, the brandās promotional materials donāt seem to allude in either of those directions. One day prior to the collaborative Carrera Overtop Gogglesā official release, Supreme confirmed that the accessory would be released through an Instagram post. The post featured models and designers, Shannon and Shannade Clermont, perhaps better known as the Clermont Twins, each wearing a different color of the goggles.Ā
Those less acquainted with the Clermont Twins may find their feature in the Supreme Carrera Overtop Goggles promo coming out of nowhere, but fans of Shannon and Shannade will likely catch the reference. Shannon and Shannade Clermont own their own fashion company, MONT BOUDOIR, and one of the brandās most popular pieces are their Money Shades, which give off a slight resemblance to the Supreme Carrera Overtop Goggle. With the brand tapping the twins for promotional purposes, itās almost definitely a nod to the twin designersā most recognizable design.Ā
The Supreme Carrera Overtop Goggles were released at the retail price of $298 and both colors can be bought and sold on StockX below.
