Luxury Supreme collaborations are relatively rare. The only two luxury brands Supreme has worked with in the last four years are Louis Vuitton in 2017 and Jean Paul Gaultier in 2019. This week, Supreme returns to the capital F Fashion space with the release of their 43 piece Emilio Pucci collaboration. For Supreme and Emilio Pucci fans alike, this collection includes the fusion of both brands’ most iconic work in the form of patterned Box Logos, Zippo Lighters, Smoking Jackets, and more.
Emilio Pucci started making clothes in 1947, originally designing skiwear for a friend. A photo of that skiwear ended up being featured in Bazaar in 1948 and two years after that, Pucci showed his first collection on the runway. The luxury label quickly became known for free-flowing, comfortable silhouettes and eye-popping print patterns. Pucci’s colorful kaleidoscope-like designs were so popular and identifiable that they’d eventually earn him the title, “The Prince of Prints.” The brand eventually sold a majority stake to LVMH in 2000 and, more recently, Emilio Pucci has been dipping into their archive and updating the designs of some of their most popular prints.
For Supreme and Emilio Pucci’s collaborative release, the two brands have delivered clothing in two of Pucci’s most popular archival prints. The first and most used pattern is Emilio Pucci’s Fantasia print, which debuted in 1970. This design is used in three different colors on Supreme Emilio Pucci Box Logos as well as Smoking Jackets, Soccer Jerseys, Zippo Lighters, and more. The other print is 1965’s Tulipani pattern, which takes on a hand-painted look and is available on one colorway of the Smoking Jacket, Hoodie, Sweatpant, and L/S Shirt.
Unsurprisingly, the standout pieces from this collection are the Supreme Emilio Pucci Box Logos. The Box Logo T-shirts were released in nine total color combinations, each mixing different colors of the Fantasia Print Supreme logo with a white, grey, or black t-shirt. This marks the second time this year that Supreme has released a new Box Logo T-shirt, the first being one in-store for the opening of their Milan location. Even though the Supreme Box Logo is the most affordable it’s ever been, the collaborative nature of these three t-shirts and their colorful design will likely lead to higher price premiums than some previous recent releases.
The Supreme Emilio Pucci Box Logo T-shirts may be the most popular pieces to release as a part of this collection, but they aren’t the only bangers. The two brands also collaborated on new colorways of the best-selling Supreme accessory on StockX: the Zippo Lighter. Supreme and Emilio Pucci put the Fantasia pattern on three new colorways of the streetwear brand’s most popular accessory, delivering a functional lighter that doubles as an art piece.
Luxury Supreme collaborations don’t come often, but when they do, they’re usually a hit. Supreme’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton in 2017 was such a big deal that the release was actually shut down and never allowed to take place in New York City after it was believed by the city that it might cause rioting in the streets. Now, pieces from that collection resell on StockX for astronomical prices with jackets from the collection being purchased for more than $10,000 USD. In 2019, Supreme collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier, delivering their only other luxury collaboration since then. With this week’s Emilio Pucci collaboration, we’ve now been blessed with three luxury partnerships in the last four years, meaning that it might make sense to expect the next one even sooner than two years from now.
