Supreme Lawn Chair

BBQ season is upon us and although it will likely be experienced alongside some healthy social distancing, the backyard is calling out loudly. As a part of their SS20 Week 12 drop, Supreme has released their very own branded lawn chair to help you get prepared for the upcoming slathered ribs and Arnold Palmers. Whether you’re hosting, attending, or joining on Zoom, the Supreme Lawn Chair is a great way to flex on your friends while scarfing down your grilled chicken and kebab.

For some of us, the backyard isn’t exactly our scene; we prefer to rough it in the woods or bask on the beach. The Supreme Lawn Chair is foldable making it perfect for road trips and easy to move around and set up wherever. So whether it’s getting your tan on or roasting s’mores over a hot fire in the woods, take solace in knowing that your flex can cover multiple terrains just like you. The Supreme Lawn Chair released on May 14th, 2020, and retailed at $78 USD.

The Supreme Lawn Chair’s SS20 release makes it the fourth chair released by the brand in the last four seasons. We’d love if we’re watching a new tradition emerge for the brand, one of releasing some kind of seated furniture item seasonally. For FW19, it was in collaboration with furniture manufacturer, Knoll, that Supreme released a classic Wassily Chair in leopard print. The release of the Wassily Chair fulfills a prophecy of sorts, delivering an official collaboration with Knoll after Supreme released a tee in SS18 which featured imagery of a Supreme branded Wassily Chair. The t-shirt speaks to the brand’s more ambitious collaborative goals as it features the Supreme logo on the chair, while the official collaboration between the two lacks any major Supreme branding. The Supreme Knoll Wassily Chair is available to shop on StockX here.

One season earlier, Supreme took another step into the seating world in the form of their Director’s Chair. Supreme dropped the chairs in two colorways, black and red, both of which became instant classics. They sold out immediately and resale prices on StockX over the last year have skyrocketed, jumping from an average sale price of just under $400 to average resale prices of over $500 in just the last six weeks. It’s no question that Supreme accessories almost always seem to climb in value and if the resale trends on the Supreme Lawn Chair look anything like they did with the Director’s Chair, we could be looking at an excellent investment piece as well.

But not every Supreme chair has proven profitable in the past. Supreme’s FW18 Inflatable Chair has been the victim of nothing more than deflated price premiums. This could be attributed to the chair’s less than practical nature; it makes sense to set up a lawn chair in your yard, or even a director’s chair in your office, but it’s a lot harder to find a permanent place for an inflatable chair like the one Supreme released in FW18. The Supreme Lawn Chair may not be a 100% lock for a profitable trade on StockX but it is far more similar to the SS19 Director’s Chair than the FW18 Inflatable Chair.
