On your mark, get set, go!
Instead of releasing a wristwatch with Seiko for their first collaboration, Supreme has opted for the timepiece companyās Marathon Clock. The Supreme Seiko Marathon Clock was made available in Week 9 of Supremeās Spring/Summer 2021 season alongside a collaboration with Japanese brand, SOUTH2 WEST8. While the SOUTH2 WEST8 collaboration and its fishing focused pieces made for an exciting collection, the best-selling and most anticipated item from Week 9 was the Supreme Seiko Marathon Clock.
Some fans of Supreme and Seiko may end up disappointed by the final product of this collaborative accessory release. While the red Marathon Clock is a fun addition to Supremeās accessory catalog, itās not the collaborative Seiko watch that many would have been expecting. Supreme has a history of official and unofficial watch collaborations that date back to 2013 when it was rumored that the streetwear brand would be releasing a Submariner with Rolex. While a handful of Supreme customized Rolexes are out there (25 if the rumors are correct), that official collaborative watch still hasnāt released.
In the first week of their Fall/Winter 2019 season, Supreme officially launched two colorways of a Timex Digital Watch, each retailing for $68 USD. Both watches were met with a frenzy of excitement, demanding price premiums of more than 200% during release week. More recently, Supreme dropped four timepieces with luxury jewelry and watchmaker, Jacob & Co. Supremeās collaboration with Jacob & Co. resulted in the release of a cobranded Time Zone watch, each set with more than 50 white diamonds. Two of the watches were made available at a retail price of more than $15,000 USD while the other two were released at the retail price of more than $18,000 USD, a starkly different price point than the Timexs.
While watch fans who were hoping for a Supreme x Seiko timepiece are going to have to wait, the Marathon Clock still has the makings of a classic accessory. The Supreme Seiko Marathon Clock is an accessory that fans can actually use while itās on display. In terms of features, the accessory offers a countdown timer, stopwatch, alarm with snooze function, automatic alarm stop within 5 minutes, calendar, and dial light. The clock runs on battery power and its stand is detachable, meaning that you can take it on the go if you plan to use it as more than just an alarm. A non-collaborative Seiko Marathon Clock costs around $43 USD and the Supreme version was made available at the retail price of $48 USD, meaning the branded version was sold at just a $5 USD markup.Ā
