Drego & Beno, the Detroit hip-hop supergroup, are living their best lives in 2019. They’ve been crowned “Detroit’s Most Menacing Duo,” released their sophomore album to critical acclaim, widely cited as leaders in Detroit’s hip-hop renaissance, and they’re gearing up for their first real tour.
The duo recently dropped by StockX HQ to talk about their influences, the importance of not being tough, and Detroit on the latest installment of “That’s 5.”
The following interview has been lightly edited.
What influences you?
Drago (D): Drugs.
Beno (B): Drugs, sex, money.
D: Land. The vibe that’s going on.
B: The real. We get right to the real, we’re not going sugarcoat it.
D: That’s what our music is about: separating the real from the fake.
What’s the most overrated?
B: Instagram
D: Instagram. Clout chasing. Just do your thing; Instagram can hurt you. It can help you, too.
B: Being touch is overrated. Just be yourself, you don’t have to be tough all the time.
D: We don’t be tough; we have a good time all day.
B: Keep it real.
What’s the most underrated?
D: Our producing is underrated. Anybody producing in Detroit right now.
B: Our city is underrated, for real. There’s so much talent here.
D: Everything comes from our city; we’ve got everything everybody else has.
What are you most excited about, right now?
B: Our mixtape, “Meet Us Outer Space.”
D: StockX, being at StockX headquarters right now!

B: Touring. We’re getting ready to do our first tour through the Midwest.
D: Getting nasty again.
Bonus Question: Was that 5?
B: Was that five? We probably need one more. Was that five?
D: No, it was four.
