The adidas Ozweego has been around for a lot longer than many people realize. It made its debut all the way back in 1996, and adidas would go on to release several different iterations of the Ozweego throughout the rest of the 1990s, before it would ultimately disappear at the turn of the century. But that wouldn’t be the end of the Ozweego; it would re-emerge more than a decade later when the first adidas Ozweego Raf Simons sneaker was released in 2013.
The adidas Ozweego Raf Simons sneakers would look noticeably different than the original Ozweegos, though. Once Simons got his hands on the Ozweego, the Belgian fashion designer would make some major changes to its silhouette, like sticking a much chunkier sole on it and exaggerating several of its other features. Some have credited Simons with starting the chunky sneaker trend that would begin just a few years later after looking back on his Ozweego sneakers. Simons was also praised for injecting life back into the adidas Ozweego by incorporating bold colors into just about every pair of the sneakers he worked on.
Simons would close down his fashion label in 2022, effectively ending his collaboration with adidas. But he definitely managed to make his mark with his adidas Ozweegos before he did. He ended up releasing dozens of different Ozweego sneakers, including the adidas Ozweego Raf Simons Core Black Silver Metallic, the adidas Ozweego 3 Raf Simons Khaki, and the adidas Ozweego Raf Simons Unity Ink Silver Metallic.
