An engineering masterpiece, the VaporMax line was obsessively tested in Nike laboratories and on Colorado trails. Nike VaporMax is the natural evolution of earlier Nike models such as Tinker Hatfield's Air Zoom and Sean McDowell's Tuned Air technology. With VaporMax, Nike wanted to use air more efficiently by putting air only where it was needed. This intention has spawned the most distinct feature of the VaporMax silhouette, its full-length, translucent, plastic outsole. The air in the sole is engineered, creating a lighter, bouncy and extremely flexible shoe. The VaporMax sneaker is meant to flex with the natural motion of the wearer's foot. The Nike VaporMax consists of a single piece Flyknit upper and an Air Max unit with zero tooling or foam layering between the upper and midsole. Air VaporMax Plus is one of the most popular sneakers from the VaporMax line and was conceptualized by Nike Sportswear Design Director, Dylan Raasch.
