What exactly do we mean when we say blind auction? Well it is a release designed for the market to set the price of the slides, and what makes it even better than most methods is the fact that a majority of buyers will win a pair of slides for less than what they Bid. Here’s how it works.
StockX customers place anonymous Bids on the slide in the size and color of their choice. Once the auction has ended, the top Bids that match the quantity we have in stock will win a pair of slides. For example, if there are 20 pairs of black size 9 slides, then the top 20 Bids on black size 9 will win the slides. However, all winners will be charged the same amount – what is called the ‘Clearing Price’. The Clearing Price is the lowest winning Bid. So in the example above, the 20th Bid is the Clearing Price. This means that even if you are the highest Bid at $1000, if the Clearing Price is $300, then you win the slides for only $300.
And these aren’t just any slides. These were custom designed by Ben and produced by Straye, a new footwear brand from the founder of Supra. As Ben told our CEO when he came through Detroit, they are, “THE MOST COMFORTABLE SLIDES ON EARTH!”
The black slide, which was originally a friends and family drop, is finally getting a proper release with only 525 pairs available. The red slide is brand new and even more limited, with only 275. Neither colorway will ever be released again. Both slides are available in whole sizes 5 through 13, and each comes with an exclusive “iced-out” StockX authentication tag on a cuban link gold (colored) chain . . . appraised value $12 lol!
