This article is part 19 of 36 in the series: Win the Holidays

Since the Pokémon Trading Card Game first made its debut in Japan 25 years ago, Charizard has been the Pocket Monster that all trainers are after. Anytime the iconic Fire-type Pokémon makes an appearance in a new set, word spreads quickly and the boxes it’s found in are instantly among the top traded items on StockX. The hunt for Charizard is no easy task though, with so many different variations of Charizard cards, finding the one that is right for you can be a challenge. To help make your search a little easier we have put together a guide on where you can find Charizard for any of your holiday shopping needs.

Pokémon Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection Box

Pokémon Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection Box

When it was revealed in June that Pokémon Celebrations would be the 25th Anniversary set, all of the headlines were focused on the one card everyone would be after, a special reprint of the 1999 Base Set Charizard that includes a special 25th Anniversary stamp. The Charizard card features the same artwork by Mitsohiro Arita from the original Charizard card that has transcended the TCG. While pulling this highly sought-after Charizard card is no easy task, the Pokémon Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection Box gives you one of the best opportunities to get it as it carries 17 Pokémon Celebrations booster packs, with each pack containing four cards meaning you have 68 chances at the Base Set Charizard reprint. This box also contains eight additional Pokémon booster packs from past sets, and a guaranteed special metal Base Set Charizard card.

Pokémon Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box

While Celebrations clearly holds the title for Pokémon Set of the Year, Shining Fates may be its closest competition. Pokémon Shining Fates kicked the 2021 English release calendar off in February. The set gave us the English edition of Shiny Charizard VMAX. This card shows a black variation of the fire-breathing beast in its Gigantamax form. Shining Fates is a special expansion, which means you can only find Shining Fates booster packs in special Shining Fates branded products. The Pokémon Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box comes packed with 10 Shining Fates booster packs, in addition to an assortment of gameplay accessories. This is one of the more difficult Charizard cards to hit as it has a pull rate of less than 1%.

Of course, if ripping open packs isn’t your jam you can always use StockX to go right to the source and pick up the exact graded single that you are after. The Charizard VMAX #74 from Champion’s Path is definitely one of the more memorable iterations of the revered dragon. This edition of Charizard VMAX gave us a radiant rainbow rendition of Charizard for one of the most visually stunning takes of the Pokémon.

If you are a person who believes that it is the journey and not the destination that reaps the most reward, then you’ll be more interested in the Pokémon Champion’s Path Elite Trainer Box. Not only does the box give you the possibility of pulling the previously mentioned Rainbow edition of Charizard VMAX (see above), but you could also hit Shiny Charizard V. The box comes with ten Champion’s Path booster packs, as well as a sealed full-art Charizard V promo card and 65 protective card sleeves donning Gigantamax Charizard’s likeness. Much like Shining Fates, both of these Charizards are a real challenge to pull as both have a pull rate that is below 0.5%.

DropX™ Exclusive: TrollX Mystery Box by Troll and Toad Vol. I (1st Edition)

DropX™ Exclusive: TrollX Mystery Box by Troll and Toad Vol. I (1st Edition)

Charizard has appeared on over 70 cards in the English language version of the Trading Card Game. However, no edition has ever managed to surpass the popularity of the original 1st Edition Base Set Charizard. PSA 10 versions of the card are now consistently trading for around $300,000 in the last year making it a very difficult card to get your hands on. Enter Troll and Toad, who have put out a repack for the ages. Inside of the TrollX Mystery Box by Troll and Toad, you will find one slabbed Pokémon card graded by either PSA or Beckett and three booster packs that could come from classic sets printed by Wizards of the Coast all the way up to the most recent sets. Aside from the 1st Edition Base Set Charizard, you could also unpack other Charizard grails like the Base Set Shadowless Charizard, Legendary Collection Charizard, Blaine’s Charizard, and more. While not a guarantee, this is one of your best bets to pull a Charizard as nearly 30% of the boxes contain a Charizard card in some shape or form.

Pokémon 25th Anniversary Collection Charizard Box (Traditional Chinese)

While The Pokémon Company International dropped several incredible cards and collectibles this year celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the franchise, there may be none greater than the Chinese exclusive 25th Anniversary Collection Charizard Box. This is an absolute must-have for any Trainer who is looking to get their hands on all things Charizard. The box includes a special edition 25th Anniversary Charizard reprint featuring the original artwork from the Base Set, and several Charizard-themed accessories such as a rubber playmat, box, and card sleeves. You will also receive five Pokémon 25th Anniversary Collection booster packs in Traditional Chinese to complete one of the most unique Pokémon releases of the year.

The 1st Edition Base Set Charizard from 1999 is the most recognizable Pokémon card that has ever been printed, but the first card to use the Charizard artwork found on that card was actually printed three years earlier as part of the original Japanese Expansion Set. This year, as part of the Japanese 25th Anniversary Collection, the decision was made to reprint 25 of the most celebrated Pokémon cards from the Japanese version of the TCG. These cards can only be found in special single card booster packs and include reprints of the original Charizard card along with other desired cards like Umbreon Gold Star, Mewtwo EX, and the cult classic Shining Magikarp. Each card in this limited edition set was created with a Confetti Holofoil background, and a 25th Anniversary graphic printed on them. Originally, the only way to get one of these packs was to purchase four Pokémon 25th Anniversary Collection packs at participating locations in Japan, but you can get your hands on as many as you’d like on StockX today. With each pack only holding one card, this set is one of the most difficult to find Charizard.
