To celebrate Air Max Day, we're stepping into the closets of some of the game's biggest collectors to find out what made them fall in love with Air Max.

This article is part 1 of 11 in the series: Air Max Day 2022: For the Love of Air

Do you remember what made you fall in love with Air Max?

Air Max 1, the big-bubble version. Iā€™ve got memories from day one. I remember the first time I saw the advert in a running magazine in 1987. In the picture, it seemed they had light coming from the bubble – was mind-blowing. A few weeks later, I found them on the shelves in a store I used to visit. I did a full analysis: touching, pressing, looking inside and through the bubble. But I had to wait a few more months until I had the money to buy a pair. I remember the smooth feeling on foot. It really felt like you were walking on clouds.

Whatā€™s your most memorable Air Max experience?

I really enjoyed visiting the DNA in Beaverton, where I was able to hold the OG samples in my hands. It was great to see how they implemented Air soles to already existing silhouettes. So cool.

Is there a particular Air Max that you donā€™t have but would give up half your collection to possess?

I like different Air Max models, but in my opinion, thereā€™s no other model close to the original Air Max 1. Thatā€™s one of the most important pairs within my personal collection.

If you could save only three Air Max styles from being wiped from existence, which three would you choose?

Only three? Hmm. Obviously, the Air Max 1 Big Bubble, the Air Max 180 and Air Max Triax 94.

I hear you were into sketching sneakers as a child. Do you still do it?

Sketching sneakers?! Hahaha! Yes, that was part of my childhood. Many of us used to draw sneakers. We didnā€™t have as much info as today, so that was the way to own and admire them.

What is your ideal future for Air Max?

The future? I donā€™t know. The present is too technical or exaggerated in my opinion, so I prefer to pay tribute to the OGs.
