Watches have been gaining popularity amongst a broader crowd, outside of their usual niche market. As more information about watches hit the mainstream, we see the instant rise of Rolex, Casio, Apple, and others for their notability and accessible price points. These brands are already moving the needle in 2020.
Rolex
As the crown on their logo suggests, Rolex remains king. It was the first brand to catapult the watch vertical on StockX and since then, the Swiss brand has outperformed all other brands on the site. Recently, the Rolex Datejust found some mainstream popularity, being the watch of choice for many celebrities and Instagram influencers for its simplistic look. The 16013 reference in particular is the most sought after, with many attracted to the two-toned colors.
Casio
Since StockX first introduced watches, Casio always had a strong presence on our site thanks to G-Shock. The liquid metal pack that released in 2018 remains a fan favorite, being one of the most sold styles on the platform. January also rolled in a slew of collaborative pieces on StockX, like the recent release from Chinese creative studio CLOT and the classic DW-5600 Keith Haring watches. There were a few surprises that made the cut such as the GA2100. The watch is very basic, yet extremely effective and durable for everyday use, which could explain its daily sales since the start of the New Year. We can’t wait to see what Casio has to offer next.
Apple
Apple consistently delivers high end tech in such small packages like the Apple Watch. When the watch first released in 2015, people instantly gravitated to its advanced technology. Today, Apple Watch has continued to go above and beyond, making it an instant hit on StockX. Both the Series 3 and Series 5 have performed well on the site. It goes to show that no matter how much you try to avoid it, Apple will find a way to make it into your lives.
Timex
Last year, Timex brought back their Q model, a watch that was huge during its 1970s debut. The watch was met with similar enthusiasm in 2019, as the reissued watch held the same aesthetic as its nearly 30-year old predecessor. It quickly sold out and became our most sold Timex on StockX, making it the brand’s champion model in 2019.
2020 brought in a new favorite on our site, as the Los Angeles streetwear brand Brain Dead collaborated with Timex on their Fabric Strap Watch. After selling out within minutes, the watch was quickly listed on our site and has sold for 83% above its retail price. It is on track to outnumber sales of the Q model in its first month alone.
Seiko
The Seiko Prospex is a watch that keeps its relevance. Since its 2016 release, the dive watch has remained a fan favorite. The watch has been met with positive reviews from both watch newcomers and enthusiasts, speaking to its high popularity on StockX.
