Brooklyn native Angela Yee has been pushing the culture forward for the last two decades. Yee has worked with some of the biggest names and companies in music and broadcasting, from the Wu-Tang Corporation, Niles Rodgers, to Eminem and Shade 45 Sirius XM. Beginning in 2010, Yee joined Charlemagne Tha God and DJ Envy on the nationally syndicated show “The Breakfast Club.” Recently, Yee stopped by StockX HQ to talk about her influences, real estate, and the importance of getting enough sleep on this installment of “That’s 5.”
Angela was recently honored by the city of New York when Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaimed August 28, 2019 “Angela Yee Day.” To celebrate this special occasion, StockX hosted a “Pre Day for Yee Day” event in NYC. Click the link here for a recap.
The following interview has been lightly edited.
Who are some people that influence you?
I’m mostly influenced by my friends who are close to me. In particular, my best friend in college. She’s the type of person who’s spontaneous and would do the most random thing. I look forward to that time in my life when I can be the same as her.
Most Overrated?
When people say, “I’ll sleep when I die,” because being sleep deprived is extremely overrated. I don’t think anyone needs to work themselves into the grave. All of those stupid sayings about skipping sleep and grind until you can’t anymore is overrated.
Most Underrated?
Girl trips. We need our girl trips and they’re underrated.
What are you most excited about, right now?
I’m excited about investments. I’m going to be honest, I was never that great at investing but I just bought some stocks and one of them in particular recently doubled in value. I also sold a house which led to me buying a new condo, so I’m excited about that as well. This is the first time in my life where I feel secure financially.
What’s next for you?
I want to buy a vacation home and rent it out, possibly place it on Airbnb.
