Joey Trap

NYC-born and San Diego-based rapper Joey Trap continues to ascend the rap-ranks through skill and sheer output. At only 22, Trap has 13 solo albums under his belt, with five albums released in 2020 alone. Less than a month after the release of his latest album, Loyaltyhe’s already prepping for the release of his next album, Professional, slated to release next month. We caught up with the busy rapper for a brief talk about music, 2021 plans, and overrated sneakers.

The following interview has been lightly edited.

What influences you?

Listening to music, especially old music, inspires me the most because there’s so much soul. I’m able to really feel the soul in the music.

What’s the most overrated?

The Balenciaga shoes that look like socks and Sketchers [Balenciaga Speed Trainers and Balenciaga Triple S]. I ain’t into that.

What’s the most underrated?

Me! Next question.

What are you excited about?

I’m excited to achieve more and grow with the times. Things do change, but it creates space for me to be better and do better.

What’s next for you?

I’m getting ready to drop all the singles I have lined up for this year, one by one. Finna be a flood.
