Cigars and champagne became synonymous with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ victory traditions throughout the 90s. Following tradition, Jordan Brand released the Air Jordan Retro 6 Cigar and Champagne colorways in 2014 to further commemorate the 1991 Championship over the Los Angeles Lakers. The Air Jordan 6 Cigar and Champagne releases were highlighted by lace locks designed to look like the rings that MJ and the Bulls were given for their first championship, with each AJ6 taking color inspirations from their respective nicknames.
In 2015, Jordan Brand released the Air Jordan 7 Cigar and Champagne colorways, also known as the Championship Pack, which again featured prominent gold lace locks resembling NBA Championship rings. This time, in celebration of the 1992 NBA Championship in which the Bulls defeated the Portland Trailblazers. The Air Jordan 7 Champagne featured a Metallic Gold tongue and accents on top of a white and black colorway, while the Cigar Jordan 7 featured a deep burgundy-like “Team Red” upper with off-white “Sail” and Metallic Gold accents and the always popular gum outsole.
For 2016, Jordan Brand is following suit with the release of the Air Jordan 8 Championship Pack later this month to celebrate the 1993 Chicago Bulls championship win over the Phoenix Suns. The Jordan 8 Confetti features a black pebbled leather upper with a confetti inspired graphic across the plastic mud guard. Shiny patent on the heel, gold clasps on the ankle straps with the statement “World Champions Again and Again” underneath, give these Air Jordan 8 Retros a completely new and unique feel.
The Air Jordan 8 Champagne colorway hits on the popular trend of off-white sneakers. Like the cigar inspired version, the straps feature the phrase “World Champions Again and Again” on the underside with gold clasps locking them down. The plastic mudguards on the champagne inspired Jordan 8 are done in matching gold finish and feature Michael Jordan’s fingerprints. The Air Jordan 8 Championship Pack officially releases on June 25th but you can Bid on and Sell both colorways now here.
