Drake’s forthcoming album, Certified Lover Boy, will release in January 2021, shortly after the end of the 2020 holiday season. He announced the upcoming release on Instagram on Monday, October 26th, two days after his 34th birthday. Shortly after making the announcement, Drake and Nike shock-dropped their long-awaited and highly-anticipated apparel collection via Drake’s merch site, drakerelated.com. Earlier this year, Drake posted several photos of the collaborative capsule on his Instagram Story, driving his fans wild with excitement. The collection features thirteen co-branded Drake x Nike pieces including hoodies, t-shirts, socks, a hat, and two bomber jackets. Unfortunately, Drake fans were unable to cop four out of the thirteen pieces, including both bomber jackets, that were labeled as friends and family only. The F&F pieces have started generating some activity on StockX though, meaning if you really wanted those jackets or t-shirts, you can definitely get them here.

Nike x Drake Certified Lover Boy Hat

Prior to its shock-drop release, the most hyped piece from the drop was a white Nike hat with a lipstick kiss print on the brim. Since releasing, that Drake x Nike hat has unsurprisingly been the most popular item from the collection. What has been surprising the Drake Certified Lover Boy merch hat has the price premium of nearly 500%. Both hoodies from the collection have also been popular, demanding average price premiums of over 250% in each colorway. Sales of the Nike x Drake Certified Lover Boy merch haven’t quite broken the site yet but it’s been rumored that a restock is imminent, and will potentially happen via the SNKRS app. This means resale prices may fall and that will likely mean more sales of this coveted first apparel collection from Nike and Drake.

Shortly after the release of Drake’s 2018 album, Scorpion, Travis Scott dropped his 2018 album, Astroworld. With the release of Astroworld, Travis Scott took his first steps forward in creating the merch empire he now confidently commands. Collaborative partners like Nike and McDonald’s have mean’t that Scott has likely cashed in quite nicely. With the release of Certified Lover Boy, Drake may be following in Travis Scott’s footsteps by releasing his merchandise more than two months before his album drops. As we already mentioned, the artist is planning to restock his merch capsule with Nike in the near future and it’s also entirely possible that there will be more. This is the first we’ve seen of Drake’s Certified Lover Boy merch, and the album doesn’t drop for two months. If Drake’s been watching the merch releases of his friends like Travis Scott and The Weeknd, it’s entirely possible he’s going to go above and beyond.

Within the domain of music, Drake has already mastered the craft of creating a hit album. Drake’s 2018 album, Scorpion,  broke Spotify’s single day streaming record with over 132 million streams on the day it dropped. That album was also nominated for five Grammys including Album Of The Year and the album’s hit single, “Gods Plan”, won Best Rap Song. Certified Lover Boy’s lead single, “Laugh Now Cry Later” featuring Lil Durk, was Drake’s 21st No. 1 hit on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart, breaking a record previously held by Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. Needless to say, Drake is one of both music and pop culture’s biggest stars and if the success of his music is any indicator of how his merchandise will sell, this collection is going to be huge this holiday season.
