“It was a borderline squat; it was filthy. We called it a ‘Palace’. It was an ironic name.”, says Palace co-founder, Gareth Skewis in Hypebeast’s most recent print magazine. Named after the “shithole” housing that the two cofounders and their friends used to live in, Palace was founded in 2009 by Lev Tanju and Gareth Skewis. In the early days, Palace was distributed through various skate shops in London. As the brand began to pick up steam, they were brought in by London skate authority, Slam City Skates. From there, they broke into Supreme, being the only other brand sold in-store at the opening of Supreme London in 2011. Their first physical store opened in London in 2015, followed by a store in New York in 2017 and Tokyo in 2018.

In celebration of Palace’s 10th anniversary, we’ve created this landing page to house a year long covering of the brand and their history. Over the course of 2019, we’ll publish a variety of deep dives, profiles, and short-form ironic content in-line with the spirit of the now 10 year old brand. After a dynamic 2018, we’re expecting Palace to pull out all the stops and go even bigger for year 10 so check back often as we cover both their history and what they’re doing in 2019.
