Over the last 26 years, Supreme has released hundreds of different box logos in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors, and designs. There have been t-shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, beanies, and fitted hats dropped for all different occasions, but one piece that’s never been officially released by the brand is the long sleeve box logo t-shirt. In 2012, the brand released just one colorway of a long sleeve box logo t-shirt but only for friends and family. After rumors of an official release for several years, Supreme finally dropped nine colors of their long-awaited and highly-anticipated long sleeve box logo on October 8th, 2020.
For serious collectors, the date will go down in history as the day they finally got their hands on the elusive Supreme Box Logo Long Sleeve Tee. While not the first box logo to drop in 2020, the release does mark the first time this year that we’ve seen multiple colorways released at the same time. Because this is the first time they’ve done a long-sleeve box logo, the hype and demand may be among the highest we’ve seen for a Supreme drop in a long time. These nine colorways are now the original long sleeve box logo t-shirt colors and it’s likely that we won’t see another release of these shirts for several years.
2020 is shaping up to be another box logo-heavy year, similar to 2019. In 2019, Supreme released box logos on four different occasions; dropping Swarovski Box Logos in April in honor of their 25th anniversary, a San Francisco Box Logo in October, and the somewhat less-traditional bandana box logos hoodies and t-shirts in December. Supreme released 24 different box logos released in 2019, which was more than double what was released in 2018 and 2017. This year is looking to be very similar as Supreme has already dropped the collaborative COVID-19 Box Logo with Takashi Murakami and the long sleeves. That makes seven box logos released in October of 2020 and Supreme has still yet to release an array of Cross Box Logo hoodies and t-shirts. If the rest of FW20 goes as expected, it looks as if more box logos are going to become the status quo. For some die hard fans and purists, more box logos may be a negative thing. Those who love Supreme more for it’s exclusivity than an appreciation for the clothes may feel as if the brand is becoming watered down. But for fans who’ve been following for years with the dream of owning their own box logo, it’s starting to look like that’s becoming more and more possible.
