On October 6th, 2017, Supreme opened a new brick and mortar store in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, bringing a second Supreme location to the city of New York. Supreme has made a habit of releasing an exclusive city specific Box Logo T-shirt with the opening of each new store. When they opened Supreme London, it was the Union Jack logo, and in Paris they dropped a black and white version of their famous t-shirt. But, with the opening of their Brooklyn location in 2017, they released their t-shirt a little bit differently.

At first, the t-shirt that featured a black and yellow camouflage box logo was released in similar fashion to past store openings. The doors opened on October 6th, and those lucky customers at the beginning of the line had their chance to cop, while those at the end and some even closer to the middle were mostly out of luck. For a few days, that was it. Until out of nowhere, on a Monday morning, they released their Brooklyn Box Logo T-shirt online. This was a huge surprise because Supreme only ever releases product on Thursdays with some incredibly rare exceptions. Of course, the t-shirts sold out immediately, but it was revealed via the product page that morning that all proceeds from online sales of the t-shirt would be donated to United for Puerto Rico, a non-profit that was dealing with the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Since then, Supreme has revealed that this was not a one time deal, releasing several other t-shirts whose proceeds would be donated to charity. Donations of Store Opening Box Logo proceeds are likely going to be a regular occurrence as the brand also donated their proceeds from 2019’s San Francisco Box Logo T-shirt to charity. This spring, during the height of the pandemic and Stay-At-Home order, Supreme took their charity efforts beyond just the openings of new stores. On Friday, April 24th they released a collaborative Box Logo t-shirt with Takashi Murakami, of which the proceeds all went to the benefit of homeless populations struggling during the pandemic. We at StockX also followed their lead, donating the proceeds of sales of the box logo on StockX to the same charity. Supreme’s proceeds from the t-shirt amounted to a donation of over $1 million.
