Supreme The North Face

Supreme and The North Face are back. Collaborating for the second time this season, the two brands have delivered a cargo pocket heavy collection that also features the release of a new t-shirt. Highlights from the release come in the form of the Multicolor Cargo Jacket, which features Supreme The North Face branding and seven pockets, as well as the One World Tee. Other pieces from the collection include cargo vests, pants, hats, a tote bag, and a floating keychain.

SS20’s earlier Supreme The North Face release dropped ten weeks earlier as a part of the brand’s Week 3 release. The earlier collaboration saw Supreme digging deep into the TNF archives, resurrecting The North Face’s “Remote Terrain Gear” line which only lasted for a few years during the late 90’s. That release included items like the popular RTG Tee, RTG Fleece Jackets, and the RTG Jacket + Vest. The RTG Jacket + Vest, though not the best selling item of the collection, was by far the standout piece. The Jacket + Vest combo is a jacket with a detachable vest and backpack, making for an interesting two piece garment that could be worn as either item separately or together. Despite the novelty of the Supreme The North Face RTG collection, it debuted to underwhelming resale numbers as compared to similar collaborations. Just months earlier, the Supreme The North Face Paper Print Nupste Jacket resold over 1,500 times on StockX, whereas The RTG Jacket + Vest hasn’t resold even 1,000 times across all colorways yet. Or compare it with FW19’s Statue Of Liberty Mountain Jacket, which has resold nearly 4,000 times since dropping, four times that of the RTG Jacket + Vest. But there’s still plenty of time to make up the difference.

It’s still far too early to make any true comparisons between the Cargo collection and the RTG collection but speculation suggests that the Cargo collection should rise above that of its predecessor. A key difference between the two collections lies in their retail prices and then in their reflective resale prices. The RTG Jacket + Vest retailed for $698 USD, a whopping $300 more than the most expensive piece from the Cargo collection, the Cargo Jacket. At a retail price of $398 USD, the Cargo Jacket has a lot more room to breathe in the resale market and inevitably a lot more interest as a result of lower pricing. Our expectation is that the Supreme The North Face Cargo Collection will perform better than the RTG collection but may struggle to reach numbers like the Statue Of Liberty collection. The bar is set incredibly high.
