As part of our Supreme 25th Anniversary features, each month we will be bringing you a closer look at Supreme’s deep history of collaborations. This month we’re taking an in-depth look at the longstanding tradition of The North Face x Supreme collaborations.
Since 2007, Supreme has worked with the outdoor utility company, bringing hype designs to their extensive product catalog. The North Face has established their position as a major player in the outerwear world for many years, being the apparel of choice for many New York City MCs, including The Notorious B.I.G. and The Wu-Tang Clan, and internationally, with grime artists in the U.K. Collecting co-signs such as these have helped The North Face stamp their place in streetwear fandom. Combining the growing conglomerate that is Supreme with the modern outerwear staple that is The North Face, you’ve got yourself a partnership that is showing no ending in sight.
The Supreme x The North Face collaboration includes some of TNF’s most notable items, including the Nupste, the Exposition, the Baltoro, as well as many other items that include graphic tees and bags.
To celebrate this collaboration, we have compiled a grouping of some of our favorite pieces from the 12-year strong partnership, focusing on our favorite jackets, t-shirts, pants, and accessories.
Jackets
There is nothing more ubiquitous to the success of The North Face than their jackets. These jackets have been favored for decades, being the winter apparel of choice for those in the rap game to mountain climbers in the Himalayas. Their jackets range from windbreakers to their classic down jacket, the Nuptse. Supreme has added various designs to The North Face’s jackets, varying in concept and complexity. As apparent above, these jackets offer some of the loudest designs to the most subtle, with each adding to the growing culture that is both Supreme and The North Face. We picked some that stand out the most on our site. The jackets above date anywhere from 2013 to 2018, and go for $600 to a whopping $5,000+ on StockX.
T-Shirts
T-shirts were thrown in the mix for Supreme and The North Face starting in 2016, alongside their old-school Steep-Tech jackets. With exception to the metallic tee from SS18, each graphic tee pays homage to The North Face’s admiration for snow-covered mountains and skiing. Each shirt sells out fairly quickly, with price premiums as high as 316%. The shirts above were released from FW16 to SS18 and are still a fairly new introduction to the partnership. Despite there being only a couple of the shirts on StockX, we are excited to see what the two have in store for the future.
Pants
Supreme x The North Face pants were introduced for Supreme’s SS12 collection. Since then, they have become a hot item whenever a drop arrives. The pants seem to make the collections whole, adding to the full mountain expedition-meets-street aesthetic. Throughout the collections, each pant design seems to get more and more adventurous, demonstrating how The North Face lets Supreme get as creative as possible. With a range of materials and print styles, such as denim, fleece, leaf camo, and even metallic, the collaboration speaks to the styles of both of the brands. Accessories
If there is one thing that the Supreme x The North Face collaboration proves, it is that you can still have fashionable products without losing their utilitarian integrity. The accessories from the drops have all been products that are useful in the toughest and most hype terrains. Accessories for each drop always differ, including anything from leather waist bags and bucket hats to tents and thermal blankets. With the introduction of the compass during FW18, we can possibly expect these accessories to focus more and more on exploration.
