The Cultivated Wrist

This week we’re bringing you a selection historic sport watches and a little something different for the odd cocktail party here and there. For the deal hunters out there, a variety of new Breitlings just landed on the site, including a killer Transocean, all for well under retail. Prefer the Crown? We got you covered, too. Oh, and FYI, that ceramic Daytona with black dial is still available well under market price. Without further ado, let’s dive into this week’s version of the cultivated wrist.

Breitling Navitimer 01 RB012012

The Navitimer is a piece of Breitling history (read about it on the blog right here), and it’s aged well to boot. This example features a black dial, rose gold case, and unique blue leather strap. It’ll look good dressed up, but can pull off a casual vibe without issue thanks to the colorful strap. Best part, there’s an Ask of just $11,100 on the watch right now. Good luck finding one elsewhere for under $15K.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 215.92.44.21.99.001

This one may not be historic, but it’s still pretty cool. It’s the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, but it’s not just any PO, this one is outfitted with a titanium case, grey dial and orange accents, making for a thoroughly contemporary take on Omega’s popular diver. The grey fabric strap with orange stitching ties everything together like an unsoiled rug in an avid bowlers apartment. The lowest Ask listed is currently nearly $3K under retail.

Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph 116264

The Turn-O-Graph doesn’t have the most name recognition in the Rolex Stable, but it’s got some good history and represents a great value for those looking to get into the Crown without taking a second mortgage. Did you know that the Turn-O-Graph was the first serially produced Rolex to feature a rotating bezel? Here’s an Ask under $5K on a modern example with black dial.

Bremont ALT1 Pilot P/BK

British engineering tool watches built to survive whatever you can throw at them, Bremont watches are fast becoming a staple on the wrist of explorers and adventurers (or at least, those who fashion themselves as such). The ALT1 is a pilot’s watch with an internal rotating bezel and bulletproof build quality. With an Ask just over $3K this one is hard to pass up.

Rolex Milgauss 116400GV

The Milgauss is a classic from Rolex. It’s a watch that’s been around since the mid-50’s, and was developed for a pretty bad-ass purpose: remaining useful to scientists and engineers wearing them around extreme magnetic forces. The new Milguass is offered with beautiful dials under colored glass, and the signature lightning bolt seconds hand. This one is offered in blue under a green-tinted sapphire crystal. The Ask on this example sits under $7K.
