That's 5: WHM | Sophia Chang

Nick Matthies

Nick Matthies is an editorial freelancer for StockX.

In honor of Women’s History Month, StockX will be spotlighting some of our favorite women in the game.

For this installment, we spoke with illustrator and designer, Sophia Chang. She’s worked with Nike, adidas, Warby Parker, the NBA, the MLS, Champion, New Balance, and many more.  A natural entrepreneur, Sophia started her own creative agency, WeAscend, that specializes in marketing, event planning, photography and videography, and set design services. In addition to running her own agency, she’s also a contributor for UNDO-Ordinary, a health and wellness platform designed for creatives.

Who are some of the women that have influenced you?

Not too many. I wish I had more role models to rock with but few women break molds unapologetically.

What is most overrated at the moment?

Every time someone jumps on the hype bandwagon just because it has a celebrity/influencer’s name attached to it instead of actually defining your own opinion fueled by tasteful decision making.

What is most underrated at the moment?

The topic of health and wellness in the creative space. This is so important because what fuels our performance and creativity are closely tied to what we consume: literally, and figuratively.

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would you say

Keep doin’ ya thang young’n.

What’s next for you?

Continuing to do great things. Aside from my design work I also co-founded a creative agency called WeAscend aimed to uplift my community and get them jobs so we can chase checks collaboratively. And I have a platform called UNDO-Ordinary aimed to break the algorithm on how we talk about health and wellness, packaged for creatives, powered by community.
