That's 5 | Tommy Genesis

Kevin Kosanovich

Kevin holds a Ph.D. in American studies and is an expert in American cultural history and hip-hop. He is the Senior Content Manager at StockX.

Tommy Genesis, the one-time “rebellious underground rap queen” of the internet has been building a genre-and-industry-blending creative career since her early collaborations with Atlanta’s Awful Records and the release of her 2015 mixtape, “World Vision.” Since then, she’s modeled for Calvin Klein, signed to Downtown Records, and released her self-titled, debut album. Not too shabby for the self-proclaimed “fetish rapper.”

Check our interview with the rapper and visual artist below.

The following interview has been lightly edited.

What influences you?

Many things: nighttime; nature; stress; real-life dystopia versus my imagination’s romantic utopian world; compassion; words from verses from songs from albums from artists; the sunshine when it does and doesn’t shine; coffee; good and bad thoughts—but I choose the good.
Tommy Genesis

What’s the most overrated?

Social media.
Tommy Genesis

What’s the most underrated?

People with good intentions.

What are you most excited about right now?

I’m starting to map out my next project, so I guess new music. That and I’m about to order some vegan pizza once this plane lands.
Tommy Genesis

What’s next for you?

I have lots of shows coming up in August, some in Europe and some in the US.
