The first of our New Year's guides select some classic, and soon to be classic, items to flex from the couch and beyond for this, and every other, New Year's.

This article is part 4 of 11 in the series: New Year, New You

This year, New Year’s Eve will be a more subdued affair. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate in style. Throughout the week leading up to New Year’s Day, we’ll offer some great ideas and options to make that New Year’s feeling of excitement and hope last all year. But first, we’ll start with some classic, and soon to be classic, pieces to get your NYE’s fit off. Whether you’re celebrating on the couch, online, or at a socially-distanced and safe outing, these are some of our favorite items to wear for this, and every other, new year.

Nike vaporwaffle sacai black white

Nike Vaporwaffle sacai Black White

The beauty of the Nike x sacai collaborations is that Chitose Abe’s fashion-forward design immediately becomes timeless. And the 2020 combination of the modern-day Vaporfly and classic Pegasus Nike silhouettes continues this genius partnership. The sneaker features double-layered panels in black, white, and gray throughout the upper and a double-stacked midsole, continuing with the now-iconic sacai doubling motif. The Vaporwaffle comes in various colorways, but the classic black and white look will never go out of style.

No Vacancy Inn x Stussy Double Breasted Blazer Dark Navy

No Vacancy Inn x Stussy Double Breasted Blazer Dark Navy

There are many moments in life that recommend a little polish. New Year’s Eve is one of those events where elevated style makes the moment feel special, however, and wherever you celebrate. With the No Vacancy Inn x Stussy Blazer, you’ll be able to dress up for the new year without giving off stuffy vibes. Plus, rocking this timeless piece from the collab between the brand that started streetwear and the preeminent underground creative collective will justifiably earn you “legend” status well into the new year. This blazer will find its way into your rotation for years to come.

Yeezy Slide Bone

Yeezy Slide Bone

In a year where Crocs became one of the hottest collab partners out there, it’s no surprise that a slide became an instant classic. Although originally released in December 2019, the Yeezy Slide Bone left its mark on 2020 as the last slide you’ll ever need to own. Super comfortable and easy to wear, the Yeezy Slide is also design-forward enough to complement a wide variety of New Year’s Eve fits from couch to Zoom or anywhere else. In the increasingly oversaturated Yeezy market, it’s a nice break from the endless release of 350s.

Palace Arc'Teryx Gamma AR Pant Black

Palace Arc’Teryx Gamma AR Pant Black

Performance brands such as Salomon, Patagonia, The North Face, and Gore-Tex have become mainstay collaboration partners with streetwear and fashion labels. And one of the most exciting collabs in 2020 was between Palace and Arc’teryx during Palace’s FW20 season. The dual-branded Gamma pants are designed for outdoor performance but elevated enough to transition smoothly to any social adventure or simply relaxing at home. With cosigns from Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, Drake, and Virgil Abloh, these pants have garnered current hype credentials and will be classic-status for years to come.

adidas Ivy Park 3-Stripes Suit Jacket Green Tint/Dark Green

adidas Ivy Park 3-Stripes Suit Jacket Green Tint/Dark Green

Beyonce’s Ivy Park collection with adidas is very much like the pop legend: effortless, cool, and in demand. The Ivy Park 3-Stripes Suit Jacket comes in a subdued mint green with the legendary adidas three stripes running down the right sleeve in dark green and  Ivy Park printed along the left sleeve. This jacket is a dope piece made to elevate any outfit and perfect for any occasion. New Year’s Eve comes once a year, but the Beyhive is forever.

Hidden NY Crew Socks Multi

Hidden NY Crew Socks Multi

Since September 2018, the curated fashion account Hidden.NY has become a must-follow for the culture and boasts heavy-hitter followers, including John Elliott, Don C, Takashi Murakami, Drake, Virgil Abloh, and Ronnie Fieg. Since becoming streetwear’s unofficial moodboard, Hidden.NY has released a variety of clothing and accessories, including the Hidden NY Crew Socks three-pack. Coming in navy, natural, and white with Hidden’s “H” logo on the leg and motto “Past, Present, Future” on the toe, these socks are a perfect IYKYK flex this and every new year.

Jordan 5 retro Off-White Black

Jordan 5 Retro Off-White Black

By now, we’re all familiar with Abloh’s postmodern playfulness when it comes to sneaker design. So familiar, in fact, that each release began to feel formulaic. With the Jordan 5 Retro Off-White Black release, Abloh raised the bar, and the hype, on his already formidable reputation. The silhouette was reimagined with black textile mesh that included translucent circles that could be cut out depending on the wearer’s preference, and a pre-yellowed sole to complete the distressed-meets-technical design. Looking back, we may view This Jordan 5 as the start of a new and exciting chapter of Nike x Off-White releases. The perfect flex for the new year.

Aime Leon Dore x New Era Chain Stitch Yankees Hat Dark Green

Aime Leon Dore x New Era Chain Stitch Yankees Hat Dark Green

There’s just something about a crisp, fitted Yankees cap. If you don’t believe me, ask any ‘90s rapper ever. Few logos resonate globally and are as loved as the New York Yankees. Turning out a refined version is straight from the ALD playbook of elevating everyday pieces and collabs with heritage brands. With a chain stitched Yankees logo on a rich dark green hat, the ALD x New Era Yankees Hat is the perfect capper for everyone’s hat rotation. In fact, you’ll never need another Yankees hat again.

Supreme Box Logo L/S Tee Purple

Supreme Box Logo L/S Tee Purple

Everyone loves a classic, and the Supreme Box Logo L/S Tee Purple is a classic. For the first time in Supreme’s history, FW20 saw the classic box logo’s release as a long sleeve tee. This new iteration of the brand’s signature logo makes the shirt even more unique beyond the box logo’s timeless appeal. This is the kind of no-fuss piece to wear whenever and with whatever. It will never go out of style.

New Balance 992 JJJJound Green

New Balance 992 JJJJound Green

When it comes to executing collabs, Montreal-based design studio JJJJound rarely misses, working with APC, Reebok, Danner, and Vans, among others. But it is JJJJound’s work with New Balance that demonstrates the studio’s skill. Dressed in mossy green on its suede and mesh uppers, the colorway is right for JJJJound’s color palette and looks perfect on a New Balance sneaker. The grey 992 version also generated a lot of hype, but the green is the perfect shade to kickstart the new year.

Cactus Plant Flea Market Born Again Hooded Sweatshirt Yellow

Cactus Plant Flea Market Born Again Hooded Sweatshirt Yellow

CPFM’s Born Again Hooded Sweatshirt provides the perfect message for this, and all subsequent, new years. There’s a reason why people start talking about resolutions and making changes around the turn of the year: It’s a perfect line to divide the old from the new. And in this bright yellow banger, you’ll be able to show the world how you plan on coming this year. “Ye Must Be Born Again,” indeed.

Nike SB Dunk Low atmos Elephant

Nike SB Dunk Low atmos Elephant

In a year where the Dunk was king, this silhouette reigned in the present by referencing the past. Dressed in white leather, black nubuck, with a jade Swoosh, and cement grey elephant print, the Nike SB Dunk Low atmos Elephant paid homage to the iconic Air Max 1 atmos Elephant. What you get is the “it” silhouette dressed in an all-time print design. This is exactly what you expect from sneakers year-in and year-out: continuity and growth executed at the highest level.

Jordan 11 Retro Jubilee 25th Anniversary

Jordan 11 Retro Jubilee 25th Anniversary

Famously, Boyz II Men wore the Jordan 11 Concords at the 1996 Grammys, cementing the 11s as the sneaker to rock with a suit. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Jordan 11, the Jordan 11 Retro Jubilee was released in December. Tinker Hatfield’s original sketches inspired the Jubilee’s distinctive colorway. Featuring contrasting shades of black and white, a metallic Jumpman logo and 23 insignia on the heel, and “Jordan” spelled out in silver lettering on each of the eyelets, the Jubilee is your new go-to sneaker when you need to suit up and dress to impress.

Supreme Textured Small Box Sweater Black

Supreme Textured Small Box Sweater Black

Having a go-to black sweater is a must for any wardrobe. It serves as a foundational piece for any kind of situation, from the formal to the informal. Of course, foundational doesn’t mean boring. Having a textured knit that provides some character and the all-important box logo in a small and tasteful left chest placement means you’ll stand out every time you wear it. And since it goes with everything, you’ll be able to wear it for years to come.

Supreme The North Face S Logo Shoulder Bag Lime

Supreme The North Face S Logo Shoulder Bag Lime

Whenever Supreme and The North Face collaborate, you can expect some of the best releases of the season. The “S Logo” collection from FW20 did not disappoint. In addition to the usual array of jackets and outerwear, the collection also featured shoulder bags in black, red, and lime. Featuring The North Face and Supreme stacked logos in the bottom corner and the oversized “S” logo stretching from top to bottom, this is the perfect-sized bag to only hold all the things you want to take with you into the new year.

Jordan OG Melody Ehsani (W)

Jordan OG Melody Ehsani

Melody Ehsani teamed up with Jordan Brand for the second time with her take on the Jordan OG. First released in 1998, the Jordan OG was specifically designed for women. Ehsani offers a super clean take on the sneaker with an all-black upper with red accents, 3M piping, cherry lace emblems, and purple and red outsoles. Finally, an embroidered “ME” heel insignia lets everyone know who you’ll be focused on in the months to come.

Jordan x Union The J L/S T-Shirt White

Jordan x Union The J L/S T-Shirt White

There is something so simple and pure in the Jordan x Union The J L/S T-Shirt. Without context, all you see are Jordan’s outstretched arms and wrist band and his signature release. It’s a statement about fame, the search for perfection, and hard work. With this shirt, go ahead and make a statement without having to say anything at all.

Jordan 1 Retro High Light Smoke Grey

Jordan 1 Retro High Light Smoke Grey

Dismissed by some as a knockoff of the Jordan 1 Union LA, the Jordan 1 Retro High Light Smoke Grey is one of the best Jordans of the year. The Union 1 influence is undeniable, but the style and the price point are more subdued. Featuring a mix of materials and color blocking, this AJ1 makes the silhouette and colors feel fresh. The Jordan 1 Retro High Light Smoke Grey is a great way to show your appreciation for great design and style, as well as your savvy budgeting skills.

Supreme Motion Logo Beanie Green

Supreme Motion Logo Beanie Green

Have you ever watched a gangster film and fantasized about being about that life? There’s a much better and safer way to indulge your mafioso fantasies with a Supreme Motion Logo Beanie. The motion logo is based on Scorcese’s Goodfellas’ title sequence and has been a staple design of Supreme for years. The hat’s combination of cultural touchstones offers a subtle, solid flex for years to come.

New Balance 1300 Levi's

New Balance 1300 Levi’s

The combination of New Balances and Levi’s has been a sartorial staple of American dads since the 1980s. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the 1300, Levi’s and New Balance came together in an all-American collab that turns basic dad uniform into something cool. The legendary Cone Mills White Oak XX52 denim used to make Levi’s 501 was used as the base for the sneaker’s upper. Since the closing of the White Oak Mill, the sneakers have become even more limited since the uppers’ denim is no longer in production. The 1300s are the perfect blend of timeless style and time-bound availability.

FEAR OF GOD ESSENTIALS 3D Silicon Applique Boxy Long Sleeve T-Shirt Buttercream

The Buttercream Long Sleeve t-shirt is a great way to elevate your basics while exploring the world of high-end streetwear without the price tag.

Nike Air Max 90 Infrared (2020)

Nike Air Max 90 Infrared (2020)

It’s been thirty years since the Air Max 90 debuted, and it is still a dope silhouette. To celebrate, Nike brought back the sneaker in its original 1990 form in its original Infrared colorway. And if you have yet to cop your first pair of AM90s, the Infrareds are a great place to start. It’s only been around for thirty years and will probably be around thirty more.
