As future versions of the shoe hit the footwear scene, the Dunk gained visibility as a general lifestyle shoe and one that appealed to niche crowds such as skaters. The company kept the Dunk High in the Nike vault for a decade after releasing original colorways for various universities. However, the absence of the shoe did little to slow its growing popularity, and the 1998 reissue of the retro Dunk High saw higher demand than ever.
