Bearbrick 100%

Originally released in 2001 by Medicom Toy in Tokyo, Japan, Bearbrick 100% is a collectible toy line featuring a bear-shaped figurine. Tatsuhiko Akashi, the founder of Medicom, based the Bearbrick on the Kubrick, a LEGO-like figure with a bulging belly. Since its initial release, Bearbrick has become a Japanese pop culture icon whose influence has spread across the globe.

The Bearbrick 100% is different from the Bearbrick 50%, and the Bearbrick 70% due to its dimensions. The Bearbrick 100% is 7cm tall and one of the most common sizes. While most of the Bearbrick figurines are made of plastic, others feature wood, metal, or crystal materials. Regardless of the material used, the figurine remains durable with an emphasis on longevity. While two stubby arms connect to the shoulders, the legs have a slight bend and connect to the hip. Typically, the bear’s face is unadorned allowing artists to use it as a blank canvas to recreate their signature aesthetics.

This toy line is known for its boundary-crossing collaborations with artists, designers, and brands that beg the question "Is this art or is this a toy?" The Bearbrick x Bape 1st Camo Shark 100% Black represents a collaboration between Bearbrick and Bape, a Japanese street fashion label. It features a bold camouflage pattern across the face and Bape’s signature shark head.

While there are many variations of the Bearbrick 100% in figurine and car form, the Bearbrick 400% and the Bearbrick 1000% also come in a variety of styles, colors, and patterns.
