This article is part 89 of 109 in the series: StockX Pick Of The Week

As the StockX Streetwear category grows and more apparel brands become available, it’s only natural that iconic, storied brands get their time in the spotlight. Over the last few months, StockX has added a significant catalog offering from outerwear giants like Moncler, luxury monoliths like Prada, and streetwear staples like Comme des Garçons PLAY. The recent addition of Comme des Garçons PLAY has meant that the Little Red Heart has found a new home at StockX. In its heyday, the  PLAY logo was renowned among other streetwear brand marks like the Supreme Box Logo and the BAPE 1st Camo. This week’s Pick of the Week features one of the most classic and widely recognized versions of the little Red Heart logo, the Comme des Garçons PLAY Red Emblem Long Sleeve T-shirt.

Comme des Garçons PLAY’s Heart logo has been printed and embroidered on apparel items and accessories from t-shirts to hoodies in nearly every imaginable shape, size, pattern, and color to a veritable rainbow of Converse sneakers. This week’s Pick of the Week features the logo in its original form, small and red, with two adorable little eyes, embroidered to the chest of this long sleeve t-shirt. This particular style of the classic PLAY Red Emblem Long Sleeve T-shirt was made available in both men and womens sizing, a refreshing revelation from a streetwear line that’s existed nearly as long as some other significant brands who do not offer women’s sizing. The Red Emblem Long Sleeve T-shirt was made in Japan with a 100% cotton material and is known to fit on the smaller size, so sizing up may be wise.

Comme des Garçons, the parent company of the PLAY line that has been made famous by its popular Red Heart logo, was originally founded by legendary Japanese designer, Rei Kawakubo, in 1973. The brand’s name translates to “like the boys” in French, encouraging cross-gender styling and attitude, and gets its name from the popular François Hardy song, “Tous les garçons et les filles”. In the almost-50 years since Comme des Garçons’ founding, the brand has launched more than ten successful sub-labels, of which PLAY is one. These brands span a wide breadth of apparel offerings, delivering menswear through labels like Homme and Homme Deux, womenswear through the mainline label and Comme des Garçons, Comme des Garçons, and streetwear and direct-to-consumer pieces through PLAY and CDG, not to mention the extensive breadth of collaborations with other brand that each of the diffusion labels take part in.

Comme des Garçons PLAY was launched by the visionary Kawakubo as a sub-brand of Comme des Garçons in 2002. The label’s logo was created by New York artist, Filip Pagowski, and is featured prominently on most if not all pieces released by the label. PLAY offers most of their apparel in men’s, women’s, and children’s sizing, making it one of the most inclusive and accessible streetwear labels in the industry.

The PLAY sub-label is well known for its frequent collaborations, the most popular of which is the aforementioned relationship with Converse. The Converse x Comme des Garçons PLAY partnership has been going on for more than a decade and delivers the sneaker brand’s most popular silhouette, the Chuck Taylor All Star 70’s Hi, with a PLAY Heart Logo on it. Aside from Converse, the brand has also released popular collaborations with BAPE, Nike, and The North Face.
