Jordan 11 Space Jam 2016: Release Recap

Following the “scare” that the Jordan 11 Space Jam 2016 might tank like the True Blue 3s, we think everyone would agree that this year’s Jordan 11 holiday release went pretty much as expected.  Also, we’re still waiting for that invite to T. Swift’s birthday party.

Here’s how the 2016 Jordan 11 Space Jam has resold recently on StockX.

Key Insights:

  • The rumor and fears that the Space Jam was going to be super easy to cop drove pre-release price down as far as $286
  • Over the past two days, resell prices on the 2016 have been pretty much flat right around $300
  • #TeamEarly got started as early as mid-November selling the 2016 Space Jam on StockX

For a more complete view of the resell game, let’s add the 2009 Jordan 11 Space Jam to this chart.

slide2

Key Insights:

  • As we showed in THIS recent Jordan 11 Space Jam resell analysis, the 2009 version was selling at an average of $550 in March just before the 2016 release was announced
  • Resell prices on the 2009 moved similarly to the 2016 in response to the rumors around how available the new pairs would be
  • We are curious to see what happens to the value of both Jordan 11 Space Jams over a longer time period and what will happen if Jordan brand takes a similar approach to restocks as they did with the 72-10

Closing Thoughts:

The resell activity on the Jordan 11 Space Jam 2016 is following the exact pattern we would expect of any big retro release of this nature.  Pre-release prices start unusually high and are pegged to the prior retro’s current resell price.  Once the sneaker releases, it quickly finds its own market equilibrium price and over time, will (hopefully) start to increase as supply becomes more limited.
