Failed plant parents rejoice! LEGO is here to save you and your potentially deceased future plants with their fun low-maintenance Botanical Collection. StockX added LEGO to the collectibles catalog earlier this year and since then, the number of sets available in our catalog has risen to over 500. Since their addition, LEGO has become a relatively popular category on StockX and amongst the best sellers are both sets from the LEGO Botanical Collection. Initially released in January of 2020, the Botanical Collection immediately sold out and both sets have become the best-selling LEGOs on StockX since then.

The LEGO Botanical Collection includes two sets, a Bouquet and a Bonsai Tree, targeted specifically at adults. The most popular is the Bouquet, a 756 piece set that when built makes ten colorful flowers that can be put on display in a vase of your choosing (a vase is not included). The second set from the Botanical Collection makes a cute little Bonsai Tree out of 878 pieces. Both sets have been created thoughtfully so that they can serve as decorative pieces worthy of being set out in place of a dramatic dying water lily. No watering, sunlight, or maintenance is necessary (unless you’d like to dust them off every now and then), just a little bit of build time and a whole lot of fun. Let’s Build Fam!

LEGO Botanical Collection

The Bouquet

Whether this project ends up set out on the dining room table or gifted to a friend, the LEGO Botanical Collection Bouquet deserves to be seen once it’s been built. As described by the set’s designers in a video breaking down the background, the Bouquet is made up of ten flowers, a number carefully chosen to be able to fill a vase comfortably. When built, this set includes three Pink Roses, two Snapdragons, two Daisies, a Lavender flower, an Aster, and a California Poppy. The LEGO Bouquet manual gives us a deeper look into what this set’s designers were thinking, describing how LEGO Designers Anderson Grubb and Astrid Sundorf Christensen worked together closely to create the arrangement based on their favorite flowers and LEGO construction techniques. According to LEGO, this set was also created with nature in mind as the manufacturer begins to take steps to make all of their bricks from a sustainable source in the next ten years. The idea here is that you’re making plants out of plants with LEGO’s new plant-based plastic. At 756 pieces, the LEGO Botanical Collection Bouquet isn’t a long build and shouldn’t take you more than an hour or two. With that being said, feel free to take your time and build slowly or take a shot at making some interesting flowers of your own with your personal collection for a larger project.

LEGO Bonsai Tree

The Bonsai Tree

If you’re looking for a slightly longer and more intricate build than the Bouquet, the LEGO Botanical Collection’s Bonsai Tree should suffice. Unlike the Bouquet, his LEGO Set comes with its own buildable pot and its cute slatted-wood effect stand is basically begging to be displayed on your desk. Like a real bonsai tree, this set can be tended to and maintained. While you certainly won’t need to water it or carefully monitor its sunlight, the traditional green leaves pruned and swapped out for a vibrant pink cherry blossom vibe. As told by the set’s manual, the Bonsai Tree was designed and created by LEGO Designer, Nicolaas Vás, who claims to be bad at taking care of his real, living plants. He created the first Bonsai Tree as a part of a LEGO Ninjago build and realized that it could be fun to turn the tree into its own set. Vás’s goal in creating the set was to capture the wonder and beauty of a real Bonsai Tree. For those looking to break the rules a little bit, LEGO has provided some inspiration in the builder’s manual for anyone looking to take their tree to the next level with their own collections. This build won’t take more than a few hours but its additional 100 pieces and slightly complex design may demand more time than the bouquet.
