To celebrate StockX's fifth anniversary, we met up with team members from around the globe to learn more about their experiences being on the StockX team.

This article is part 3 of 14 in the series: Five Years Of StockX

Alana Meeks is a Social Media Coordinator based out of StockX’s Detroit headquarters. Since joining the team in the fall of 2019, Alana first worked as part of StockX’s customer service team before moving to her current role on StockX’s content and integrated marketing team. As part of StockX’s five-year anniversary celebration, we caught up with team members, including Alana, to talk about life as a StockX team member.

The following interview has been lightly edited.

How did you hear about StockX, and why did you want to join the team?

My brother and I were small-time resellers, and in 2017 he asked me if I had ever heard of StockX. The answer was no. He gave me the entire rundown of how I could sell my sneakers for my asking price on top of it being a more secure site than the platforms we were using. The following year, he started working for the company, so in 2019, seeing how big StockX was becoming, I followed suit to join the team because I wanted to be a part of a company that would forever change the sneaker market. Iā€™m employee #872.

What is the most exciting aspect of working at StockX?

I find my hidden existence in the StockX social world the most exciting part about working at StockX. I donā€™t know too many people who shout to the world that they work here, but when you see your work go live on social media, thereā€™s just this rush of excitement being that no one knows who tweeted that or came up with this idea. Even if it has good or bad reactions, itā€™s all exciting.

Your most memorable day on the job?

My most memorable day on the job had to have been on March 13th, 2020. I was actually scheduled off but was lurking around our secret store, and Delle told me that he got an email stating that many of us were going to be working remotely from here on out due to the pandemic. Me being me, I was excited to go from a 45-minute commute to waking up and starting my day right at home. My next most memorable day at StockX will be when we get back into the office.

Whatā€™s been the most surprising part of your job at StockX?

Upon joining the content and integrated marketing team at StockX, I was told that no day, no matter what, would ever be the same. I honestly thought that this statement was an exaggeration, but to my surprise, itā€™s true. My job has never had a repetitive day, and I love that because there can never be such a thing as a boring day at StockX!

How will the secondary market change in the next five years?

In the next five years, I donā€™t think the secondary market will have any drastic changes outside of becoming bigger than what it is. Iā€™m hoping that it will continue to expand, opening a door for even more categories, which will allow sellers to explore different options on what they keep in stock. But if anything, the secondary market may cause items not to be as limited or hard to get as they once were, which is for the greater good of any market.
