This article is part 13 of 14 in the series: Five Years Of StockX

Based in London, Lena Dietrich is the Marketing Manager for Germany. Since 2019, she’s played an integral role in growing StockX in Europe, especially Germany. As part of StockX’s five-year anniversary celebration, we caught up with team members, including Lena, to talk about life as a StockX team member.

The following has been lightly edited.

How did you hear about StockX, and why did you want to join the team?

When I applied for the position, I had never heard of StockX. The first time I came across StockX was via a LinkedIn job ad. I always liked sneakers but was never a sneakerhead. I would always go for general releases that you could pick up at any mainstream sports store. I saw the job specifications and felt that I fit the role well. After I had my interview with the EU team, I knew that I wanted to become part of the company. Everything that they told me about the company, its history, the plans for the journey ahead, and the company culture sounded amazing. All the people who interviewed me were so nice, and I loved the idea of being responsible for growing the German market from scratch.

What is the most exciting aspect of working at StockX?

Definitely seeing the growth of the company, especially in Europe. I remember when we were still in a tiny office, and over time more and more people joined the crew. Now we have two authentication centers in the EU, more and more team members, and a bigger office in the heart of Soho. Seeing where we started and where we are now in Europe is just unbelievable.  But most exciting—besides being part of that journeyis definitely the team. It’s amazing to work with so many different people from all over the world.

Your most memorable day on the job?

I always loved the events that we organized pre-Covid. Seeing the Paris StockXchange come to life was amazing.  The trip to Sneakerness Cologne with the London team, our first London influencer day that I organized, and the StockX/Solebox exhibition in Berlin were all a lot of fun. My second day at StockX is another day I won’t forget. Since we were understaffed, I had to help unbox at our authentification center in London all day. Not quite what I had expected at that time, but in a great way

What’s been the most surprising part of your job at StockX?

Probably the diversity of my job. Since we are a small team and I am the only German marketing team member, I basically have to do everything. From translations, partnerships, influencer marketing, content marketing, etc., I do it all. One thing is for sure: It never gets boring at StockX.

How will the secondary market change in the next five years?

I think that the secondary market will continue to expand.  There will be more opportunities to evolve our platform by adding new products and verticals. I also think that people will accept the secondary market as a serious business model, whether it is for gaining access to limited products, getting products for a good deal, or as a business opportunity to make money.
