In the world of sneakers, streetwear, and handbags, it seems as if there’s a new collab being released every day. In the words of Frank Ocean, we got new bags and they’re all collabs.  From Chanel x Pharrell to MCM x BAPE, here’s a roundup of our top 5 handbag collabs (in no particular order)  that brought the heat in 2019.

Dior x Rimowa

Dior/Rimowa

Our pick:

Dior’s current creative visionary Kim Jones didn’t just stop at one collab in 2019 –  Jones teamed up with LVMH-owned luxury luggage company Rimowa during the second half of the year. The Dior x Rimowa capsule collection debuted at the SS20 men’s runway show at Paris Fashion Week, and featured an array of sleek and innovative designs, from an aluminum travel trunk to a Champagne holder. The highly anticipated collection paid homage to the “Dior Oblique” motif, which was designed for the French luxury house in 1967 by Marc Bohan.

Dior x KAWS

Dior/KAWS

Our pick:

2019 was big on meshing the worlds of luxury streetwear and streetwear together, so it was no surprise that Mr. Jones teamed up with renowned Brooklyn Street artist Brian “KAWS” Donnelly for a menswear capsule collection. The collection featured French luxury label’s signature bee logo reimagined onto Dior’s Saddle Bag, backpacks, card cases as well as hoodies and tees.

MCM x BAPE

MCM/BAPE

Our pick:

MCM x Bape’s FW19 collection was first teased on social media and caused quite the frenzy – reminiscent to that of  LV x Supreme. The exclusive collab had officially launched in October 2019, featuring both graphic-heavy apparel items as well as luxe leather goods – such as MCM’s classic Weekender Bag, backpack, a belt bag, large and mini wallets, and of course, Baby Milo-shaped monkey Keychains.

Prada x adidas

Prada/adidas

Our Pick:

In celebration of Adidas’ 50th Anniversary, the German Sportswear label teamed up with Prada later this year to release a only 700 pieces of the adidas x Prada Superstar and Bowling Bag Set exclusively on both of the respective brands’ online boutiques. According to Prada, the limited-edition set is meant to honor timeless silhouettes that gave both brands their name.

Chanel x Pharrell

Chanel/Pharrell

Our pick:

It was only a matter of time until Pharrell Williams and the French luxury house joined forces and created an epic capsule collection that featured an array of oversized Flap bags, bum bags, and tote bags, a pair of multicolor “Coco” sneakers, as well as jewelry and clothing. Williams was a close friend to the late Karl Lagerfeld, and even walked the Chanel 2018 Metier d’Art show – a foreshadowing of the greatness that was to come in 2019.
