The Nike Space Hippie 04 is a low-top sneaker made from recycled materials and released as part of the Nike Space Hippie collection. The silhouette is inspired by Life on Mars and Nike’s commitment to a sustainable future, spreading the brand’s “Trash Transformed” philosophy to a broader audience.
Boasting recycled materials and a deconstructed design, the Nike Space Hippie 04 features a knit upper made from yarn scraps, reprocessed plastic bottles, and t-shirts. This makes up at least 85% of the sneaker. A Crater Foam midsole designed with Nike’s Grind technology combines different types of foams for stability. 15% of the material appears as ground-up waste rubber granules, hence the abstract dots of color with the Moon-inspired theme, while the rest comprises standard Nike foams. The removable cushioned insoles are made from recycled ZoomX foam scraps from the manufacture of Nike’s Vaporfly 4% runners.
This silhouette has very little ZoomX foam since it uses recycled materials from less expensive foams. The Space Hippie 04 sneakers feature a low-cut design with traditional laces and a pull-on sock-like upper for a generous fit. Throughout the Space Hippie 04 sneakers, you’ll notice subtle details such as an embroidered sunburst-style Swoosh on the laterals, a modified waffle outsole with grippy traction, woven-in yarn eyestays, “04” branded tongue tabs, and an extended pull tab on the heel with embroidered Nike branding. The Space Hippie 04 comes in extended sizing and multiple color schemes, including the Green Glow and the Sail Astronomy Blue colorways.
