Many characteristics of Nike's Air Jordan 9 series were influenced by Japanese culture. In this shoe, Tinker wanted to showcase Michael Jordan's global influence. The famous Jumpman logo has a "Rising Sun" to represent Japan. On the back of the shoe, you can see words in different languages that describe the ideals that Michael Jordan stands for both on and off the court. The right and left shoes feature different terms, including "Independence," "Freedom," "Sport," "Athletic," "Hope," "Intense," "Graceful," "Force," and "Dedicated." The Jordan 9 was featured on the Michael Jordan statue in front of the United Center in Chicago to symbolize Jordan as a "global superstar." The first release of this iconic sneaker was in 1993, and the shoe was re-released in 2002. It's a classic that pays tribute to the world's love for Michael Jordan, and it's an essential for any collector.
