A Detailed Look Into The Dior Stüssy Fall 2020 Collab

The highly anticipated Dior Fall 2020 Collection is finally hitting stores with the most coveted items already selling out worldwide. The focal point of the collection is Kim Jones’ latest artist collaboration with Shawn Stüssy. Dubbed “Dior And Shawn,” the collection was showcased on runways in Miami December 2019. This debut was Kim Jones’ first fashion show in the US and Dior’s first time showing in Miami. The Dior Stüssy Fall 2020 Collection officially launched online and in stores in June 2020, and is now available to Buy and Sell on StockX.

Shawn Stüssy is most known for his namesake surf brand, Stüssy. The brand originated in California in the early 1980s, manufacturing surfboards, evolving into a clothing brand that became popular among the skateboard and hip-hop scenes. The world-recognized Stüssy logo was made when Shawn used to scribble his signature on the surfboards he was selling. The Stüssy brand became known for its bold graphics with a range of influences from Hip-hip, reggae, graffiti, surfing, and skating to punk. In 1996, Shawn sold his share of the company holdings however remains a Streetwear legend. In 2011, Bobby Hundreds deservedly named Stüssy #1, in his “50 Greatest Streetwear Brands of All Time” article for Complex. The Stüssy brand is still thriving today, four decades later, and quite frankly can be credited as the entire reason the Streetwear subculture exists today.

It’s important to note that this collaboration is not with the brand Stüssy as it stands today but instead with Shawn Stüssy himself as an artist. Since taking on the role of Creative Director of Dior Homme in 2018, Kim Jones has infused each collection with a notable contemporary artist collaboration. His first collaboration at the helm of Dior was with KAWS for his Paris runway show in Spring/Summer 2019. Other unforgettable collaborations include Hajime Sorayama for Pre-Fall 2019, and most recently, Daniel Arsham for Spring/Summer 2020. Kim Jones, who has been a fan of Stüssy since he was a young teenager, pulled Shawn out of retirement to bring the flavor of Stüssy to Dior while taking it to a couture level. Beading, Embroidery, Ikat, Jacquard, and Double Face Cashmere are just a few of the elevated details. The Dior Stüssy collection will go down as a part of fashion history and something any collector, streetwear, or luxury enthusiast should own in their closet.
