Katsuhiro Otomo’s artwork, nicknamed “Syringe”, was the focus of the Supreme AKIRA Syringe Tee. Part of the collabortion collection for the Fall/Winter 2017 season, the art was the focus of a few different pieces. Otomo’s AKIRA story has been an acclaimed hit since the manga started in 1982 and the movie released in 1988. The storyline focuses on two friends, Kaneda and Tetsuo, who are part of motorcycle gang in a post-World War III Japan. They are involved with a world where corruption in government, drugs and gang activity are part of everyday living. The image panel used in a moment where Tetsuo is getting an injection with help from a friend. His dependency on drugs runs a bit deeper then most as he has a deep secret. The artwork is featured on the back of the cotton short-sleeved tee. The horizontal piece is repeated three times. The front of the shirt has the Supreme name added on to the left chest. One of four tee options made for the collection, the entire collection released on the Supreme online store and most locations on November 2nd, 2017.
