Supreme’s Spring/Summer 2021 season is almost over but that doesn’t mean they’re all out of hits. Supreme returned to their collaboration with KAWS this week, marking the third time that the pair has released product together this season. As the artist celebrates 25 years of KAWS, Supreme has released their popular KAWS Chalk Logo in t-shirt form. This release took place as a part of the streetwear brand’s yearly Summer Tees release, which included seven new graphic t-shirt designs including the KAWS Chalk Logo.
Coming into the Spring/Summer 2021 season, Supreme x KAWS had fans drooling with eager anticipation. After Week 1’s release of the Chalk Logo Hoodies, fans were left more than satisfied. But for Week 18 of Spring/Summer 2021, Supreme has surprised fans with the delivery of the KAWS Chalk Logo T-shirt, which was not featured in the season’s preview.
This isn’t the first time that Supreme has surprise-dropped one of their most popular logo items. The brand pulled a similar stunt in Spring/Summer 2020 with the re-release of their Motion Logo, which was first released in hoodie form and then as a t-shirt during Supreme’s Summer T-shirts release that year. Like this KAWS Chalk Logo T-shirt, the Motion Logo T-shirt was not featured in the season’s preview, even while the hoodie was.
The Supreme KAWS Chalk Logo T-shirt, like the hoodie, is destined to be one of the biggest pieces of the Spring/Summer 2021 season. Supreme’s KAWS Chalk Logo Hooded Sweatshirt is currently the best-selling Supreme piece of Spring/Summer 2021 so far, and considering the lower retail price point and eventual resale premium on the t-shirt, it’s likely that the Supreme KAWS T-shirt will be just as popular as the hoodie.
As far as T-shirts go, it’s likely that the Supreme KAWS Chalk Logo will have some stiff competition in the battle for t-shirt of the season. Two weeks ago, Supreme released a collaboration with Emilio Pucci, dropping nine new Box Logo T-shirts featuring the brand’s archival Fantasia print. Those t-shirts have been extremely popular, making them the perfect head-to-head opponent for the KAWS Chalk Logo T-shirt. Both t-shirts have released in similar colorway quantities and each has an allure of its own. In the Supreme KAWS Chalk Logo corner, you have two of streetwear’s biggest names coming together for a fun, hand drawn take on the Box Logo. But in the Supreme x Emilio Pucci corner, you have an official Box Logo with a never-before seen design. Only time will tell if the Supreme KAWS Chalk Logo or the Emilio Pucci Box Logo will end up on top, but either way, it’s exciting to see these two pieces battle it out.
