As the Supreme SS21 season approaches, we’re left reflecting on last year’s SS20 Week 1 drop. With their first release of 2020, Supreme unloaded so many great pieces that it took us two different ten image Instagram Carousels to sum up the highlights. Top pieces from the drop included the Glow In The Dark Zippo lighter, which was 2020’s best selling Supreme accessory of the year, the Tupac Hologram T-shirt, The Shop T-shirt, branded Nalgene Bottles and the Supreme New York Sweater that released alongside matching beanies. The Supreme New York Beanies may not have been the star of Supreme’s SS20 Week 1 release but they’re nothing if not underrated and, at their current resale price, also quite the steal.
Similar to the sweater, the Supreme New York Beanie released in three different colorways, all of which feature a knitted in New York skyline. The beanies also share the same branding as the sweaters with one side including the word “Supreme” and the other featuring the city’s name. In terms of colorway, it would seem that two of the hats draw inspiration from New York’s two NBA basketball teams. The orange and blue colorway shares its colors with the New York Knicks while the white and black colorway closely resembles the colors of the Brooklyn Nets. Fans of either team who may be looking for a more subtle way of representing their colors need look no further than the Supreme New York Beanie. The third colorway, which was delivered in a red and black knit, doesn’t seem to represent any official sports organization but with Supreme’s favorite color being red, perhaps they’ve delivered this design as a happy neutral. The Supreme New York Beanie was released on February 20th, 2020, at a retail price of $36 USD and can be bought on StockX now at the relatively affordable resale price of $50 USD.
The Supreme New York Beanie joins good company in the StockX catalog. Though it may sound like an exaggeration, there are literally hundreds of Supreme beanies available on StockX. If the New York Beanie and its obvious locational dedication is a bit too much for you, maybe one of the other several hundred Supreme beanies on StockX is more your taste. The Supreme Logo Beanie, which is available in many different colors, patterns, and shapes, is potentially the most popular Supreme hat on StockX. Die-hard fans of the brand will likely opt for the FW18 New Era Box Logo version, which features the Supreme Box logo in its purest beanie form and those looking to shake things up might go with the FW19 Bandana Box Logo iteration. Maximalism and logos aren’t the only areas where Supreme excels though as the streetwear label offers a multitude of options at the minimalist level as well. Both the SS20 Overdyed Beanie and the FW20 Wide Rib Beanie are mostly free from logos, including just a small Supreme Box Logo that can easily be hidden with a second fold of the hat. For those looking to get a little crazy, Supreme’s Splatter Dyed Beanie, Smurfs Beanie, or Colorblocked Cashmere Beanie take headwear in the more flamboyant direction.
