Supreme Fall/Winter 2021 Week 1 is just six days away and there’s something in the air. The brand posted an official teaser to their Instagram on Tuesday and it’s already been deciphered that a Dickie’s collaboration will be released this season. In anticipation of what’ll undoubtedly be an electric Fall/Winter season debut, we’re taking a look back at the best-performing item from a year ago: the Supreme Pharoah Sanders T-shirt.
Certain t-shirt designs have become iconic as a part of the streetwear brand’s ever-expanding catalog. Obviously, the Supreme Box Logo T-shirt is the most iconic, but other recurring designs like the Motion Logo or the Photo T-shirt are almost just as exciting. So it was a big deal when Supreme led their Fall/Winter 2021 season with the release of a brand new Photo T-shirt featuring Pharoah Sanders.
Fall/Winter 2020’s Pharoah Sanders T-shirt, like previous photo t-shirts, features the artist posing for a photo while wearing a Supreme Box Logo. For those unaware, Pharoah Sanders is a legendary, Grammy Award-Winning saxophonist who famously played in John Coltrane’s groups in the 1960’s. With the release of his Supreme Photo T-shirt, the artist has been immortalized and joins the company of other prominent artists like Gucci Mane, Nas, Morrissey, Kate Moss, Dipset, Mike Tyson, and Kermit The Frog.
As far as Fall/Winter 2021 Week 1 went, the Supreme Pharoah Sanders T-shirt cleaned up. Across all seven colorways, the Pharoah Sanders T-shirt racked up more than 6,000 total sales on StockX, making it one of the best selling t-shirts on the platform in 2020. The black colorways of the t-shirt alone outperformed Week 1’s most exciting accessory, the Supreme Bicycle Playing Cards.
Supreme seasonal debuts always come with a stacked t-shirt lineup. For Spring/Summer 2020, the brand delivered a Tupac T-shirt after years of rumors and in Fall/Winter 2020, the brand also released a collaborative Futura T-shirt alongside the Pharoah Sanders Photo shirt. Spring/Summer 2021’s Week 1 T-shirt lineup was overshadowed somewhat by the release of the Supreme KAWS Chalk Logo Hoodie. That drop also included popular and exciting t-shirts like the Supreme Water Pistol T-shirt and the Raphael T-shirt.
It’s not easy to speculate on what kind of t-shirt release we’ll be seeing next week but it’s likely that Supreme will be delivering at least one, if not two, best-selling t-shirts. It’s been rumored that Supreme and Thrasher plan to collaborate this season but it’s unlikely that Week 1 will see the inclusion of that partnership. Instead of collaborations, it’s probably more likely that we’ll see Supreme bring back a popular t-shirt from their archive, similar to what they did in Fall/Winter 2020 with the Futura Logo T-shirt or in Spring/Summer 2021 with the KAWS Chalk Logo Hoodie. No matter what Supreme ends up doing with their t-shirts next Thursday, it’s undeniable that this release is going to be an exciting one.
