Over the last few years, Supreme has gotten far more liberal with the release of its highly coveted and extremely rare Box Logo. Prior to the 2019 Spring/Summer season, it was normal for the brand to release their iconic Supreme Box Logo T-shirt, Hoodie, or Crewneck just once, maybe twice a year. But more recently, Supreme has taken a new approach. Since the 2019 season, Supreme Box Logos have been released at a rate of nearly twice per season, if not more, especially through collaborations. The brandā€™s most recent collaborative Box Logo T-shirt comes through a partnership with artist and illustrator Ralph Steadman, who delivered his own take on the Supreme logo.

The collaborative T-shirt released by Supreme and Ralph Steadman officially marks the first time that the apparel brand has delivered a Box Logo as part of an artist partnership since Takashi Murakami in the Spring of 2020. Ralph Steadmanā€™s take on the Supreme Box Logo makes some significant changes to the design. The Box Logo, which is entirely devoid of the traditional Futura Italic font spelling out Supreme, takes on an abstract, hand-painted form for this collaboration. Like much of Ralph Steadmanā€™s work, the illustration of the logo is not particularly neat, and thatā€™s almost definitely on purpose. The red painted logo was printed on the chest of six different colors of t-shirt, spanning from traditional colors like black, white, and grey to purple, pale blue, and olive green.

For those unfamiliar with the work of Ralph Steadman, heā€™s an artist and illustrator whoā€™s well known for his work with American journalist, Hunter Thompson. Steadman grew up in North Wales and moved to London to attend art school with the hope of learning the ā€œdiscipline of drawingā€. He began his illustration career shortly after that, publishing cartoons and doing the artwork for childrenā€™s books throughout the 1960s. In 1967, he worked on one of his best-known works, an illustrated version of Alice in Wonderland, which would go on to win the prestigious Frances Williams Award just a few years later.

Early in the 1970s, Steadman became friends with Hunter Thompson, and together the two would develop a lifelong partnership under the title of ā€œGonzoā€ journalism. Popular works from the duo include Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which has now been adapted into two different films, and The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved. Outside of his work with Thompson, Steadman has carved a space out for himself in popular culture, designing the artwork for artists like The Who and Quavo. In the 2010ā€™s, Ralph Steadman also designed the cover of the late Anthony Bourdainā€™s Appetites: A Cookbook as well as a limited edition run of Breaking Bad DVDs.

For Supreme, the Ralph Steadman Box Logo T-shirt takes the brandmark into somewhat new territory. If you were aware of Steadmanā€™s work ahead of this release, the collaboration was likely an exciting surprise, especially with its inclusion of a Box Logo. At an average resale price of less than $75, the Supreme Ralph Steadman Box Logo T-shirt, which deviates from the original design significantly, is by far the most affordable Box Logo on StockX. This, of course, means that itā€™s also the least exclusive Supreme Box Logo on StockX. That fact takes nothing away from the design or collaboration, but for the first time ever, a Supreme Box Logo T-shirt is reselling regularly for under $100. So if price has been the major deterrent when it comes to grabbing a Box Logo on StockX, the Supreme x Ralph Steadman version is here to meet your needs.Ā
