This article is part 5 of 14 in the series: Five Years Of StockX

Since joining the StockX team in 2018, Brittany Johnson has played a key role on a variety of technical projects as a member of StockX’s software engineering team. Brittany is a sneaker lover and truly embodies StockX culture inside and outside of the office. As part of StockXā€™s five-year anniversary celebration, we caught up with team members, including Brittany, to talk about life as a StockX team member.

The following has been lightly edited.Ā

How did you hear about Stock, and why did you want to join the team?

I heard about StockX while I was working as a Mortgage Banker back in early 2017. My love for sneakers originally made me want to join the team. After researching and learning more about its mission and values, my mind was made up that I wanted to join the team.

What is the most exciting aspect of working at StockX?Ā

Besides having the opportunity to work with and build friendships with incredible people all over the world, Iā€™d have to say that developing engineering tools to continue to help us succeed is most exciting. As an engineering team member focusing on our customer service teams, Iā€™m excited to develop more tools and features to assist us in providing the best service possible to our customers.

Your most memorable day on the job?

Most memorable? I certainly have a few. My most memorable moment would have to be what I consider my ā€œChaining Day.ā€ I had accepted my full-time employee offer, but I hadnā€™t updated my email signature yet. I replied to an email thread, and Josh Luber noticed that my email signature hadnā€™t been updated. He responded that I was official and I needed to upgrade my title. At that moment, I felt exactly how Kanye felt when Dame Dash gave him his very own Roc-A-Fella chain. I swear, in my head, I replied, ā€œIā€™m the newest member of the StockX Team!ā€

Whatā€™s been the most surprising part of your job at StockX?

The most surprising part is how fast we continue to grow. Iā€™ve been with the company just shy of three years, and Iā€™ve witnessed our team grow, our customers grow, and our product categories grow. Who wouldā€™ve thought three years ago that weā€™d have team members all over the world and that weā€™d be a leader in next-generation gaming console sales?

In what ways do you think the secondary market will change in the next 5 years?

At the rate the market is evolving, itā€™s hard to say just what new products will be sold on the secondary market. However, I believe StockX will continue to be ā€œThe Stock Market of Thingsā€ and a trusted one-stop-shop for consumers. Maybe one day weā€™ll offer houses on the platform, and I can use my old banking skills.
