The Jordan 2 Retro Alternate 87 was released as part of the Alternate collection by the Jordan Brand. This collection features colorways that pay homage to what Michael Jordan could have worn during his playing career.

The shoe features a predominantly black upper made from leather with suede overlays around the midfoot, typical of most shoes on this line. It has striking accents of red around the lace eyelets, the heel and on the edges of the suede overlays. It maintains the typical branding elements such as the Wings logo and the bold Nike text on the tongue and heel respectively.
