Supreme and Nikeās collaborative partnership has been all gas and no brakes in 2021. Prior to this Week, the two brands had already snatched headlines for their work together on the first two releases of Supremeās Spring/Summer 2021 season. After restocking both the white and black colorway of the Supreme Nike Air Force 1 for opening week, the two brands dropped their highly anticipated Nike SB Dunk Low in Week 2. Just one week later, Supreme and Nike have released a full apparel collection, including new hoodies, reversible puffy jackets, neck warmers, and more. While the entire collection is certainly worthy of praise, it was the Supreme Nike Hoodie, with its half-zip and snakeskin logo that stole the show.
Spring/Summer 2021ās Supreme Nike Hoodie might just be the best collaborative hoodie the two brands have ever worked on. Historically, Supreme Nike hoodies have primarily put focus on the sportswear brand. This hoodie does the same thing, delivering a garment almost entirely void of Supreme branding except for a small embroidered logo on the hood. Supreme and Nikeās Spring/Summer 2021 hoodie features a half-zip functionality dropping down from the hood. This detail gives the piece more of a technical vibe than the two brandās hoodies of the past. While not boisterous about its streetwear affiliation, this hoodie still features the flair of a Supreme collaboration with its inclusion of a snakeskin Nike pattern. The Snakeskin Swoosh has been seen before and longtime Supreme followers will see this seasonās Nike partnership as steeped in nostalgia, clearly referencing the two brandās 2006 SB Blazer collaboration. For both die-hard and casual Supreme fans, this hoodie is an easy add into any hoodie rotation delivering both the reliability of a tried and true essential and the excitement of something totally new.
Itās no secret that collaborating with Nike on a sneaker is a lucrative endeavor. Brands like Supreme and Off-White have been dropping shoes with the sportswear brand for years and artists like Travis Scott and J Balvin have found success creating their own signature sneakers. But over the last year, itās become clear that apparel collections can draw fans in just as much as a sneaker collaboration can. Nike released apparel collaborations with nearly all of their major partners in 2020, delivering new sportswear collections with Off-White, Union, Supreme, StĆ¼ssy, Travis Scott, and Drake. It would seem that the Nike apparel collection isnāt just here to stay, but may actually become a platform for larger brand growth. Supreme and Nike have been collaborating on apparel collections for years and since 2018, those capsules have mostly released at least once per season. Just a short way into 2021, it would seem that Nike is continuing to build longer term apparel relationships. Nike and StĆ¼ssy have already continued their partnership into this year with no signs of slowing down. Drake and Nikeās NOCTA partnership has also been confirmed to be releasing more product in 2021, potentially on a regular basis. Itās happening relatively slowly, but Nike seems to be making a bid to take over the apparel game in the same way that theyāve dominated the sneaker game. Each collaborative Nike apparel release sells out in seconds and there are rumors that there could be more on the way from partnerships with Off-White, Cactus Plant Flea Market, Drake, and Travis Scott this year. Though we donāt know exactly which one to expect first, itās undeniable that this year is going to be a big one for the Nike apparel collaboration.
