Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott - By The Numbers

This weekend brings the release of the Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott, and early price data suggests that hype around the sneaker is once again through the roof. While this is the ninth time that Travis has collaborated with Nike/Jordan brand, it marks the first time he has put his signature on the iconic Dunk silhouette. As such, anticipation is uniquely high, and you can see it in the early resale numbers.

As of this writing, we’ve seen over 500 of the Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott resell on StockX, at an average price of $1,089. Over the last 24 hours, the average price has been $1,020. With a retail price of $150, that means that pre-release price premiums are currently over 600%. Judged by any standard, that is an extraordinary markup. But how does it compare to the other eight Travis Scott releases? And how should we expect prices to perform in the days and weeks after the release, when supply fully hits the market?

To answer this question, we looked a pre-release sales data for each of Travis Scott’s sneakers, and compared that to the prices they’re currently selling at today. Specifically, we identified the average sales price for each Travis collab the day before the official release. In terms of both resale price and price premium, the Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott has second highest pre-release performance of any of his nine collaborations, just behind the Jordan 1 Low that released last summer. On the eve of its release, that Jordan 1 Low was reselling for over $1100, whereas the Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott is currently just over $1000.

Here, we should add a note of caution: on release day itself, the average price of that Jordan 1 dropped from $1100 to just $750 – a 30% decline. Such drops are not uncommon. Prior to release, the market has a tendency to discount supply effects on drop day. Thus, it is possible that the Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott will see a similarly dramatic drop.

That said, there is also reason to believe that Travis’ latest collab will hold most of their value after drop day. Nike has confirmed that their SB Dunk Low Travis Scott will not release on the SNKRS app, and thus supply will be limited. Given this added scarcity, the current popularity of the Dunk silhouette, and Travis’ unbroken record as a secondary market hitmaker, there is reason to think prices on this collab will be higher than ever.
