Seiko Brings Back The Hybrid Diver ‘Arnie’

The '80s never looked so good.

The '80s never looked so good.

The ‘80s produced a stylish generation of goods that looms large on the trends of today, and Seiko is here to take full advantage by resurrecting a classic made famous by none other than ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, and ‘10s legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger. First seen in the 1985 movie, Commando, and later Predator, the Seiko H558-5009, dubbed the ‘Arnie’ has developed a small but ardent fan base. Today, Seiko acknowledges that watch’s status but recreating it in 3 all new references.

What made the ‘Arnie’ unique was its small digital readout at 12 o’clock on the dial, which joined a more traditional looking 3 handed dial configuration. The small screen is back, serving as a chronograph readout, along with hosting alarm and date functionality controlled by the buttons along the shrouded 47mm case. The tuna can style case should wear smaller than the size would indicate, and brings a robust presence to the watch overall.

All 3 are solar powered, using the Seiko Caliber H851 inside, a big upgrade from the original. Best of all, each are priced just over $500, making this an accessible bit of nostalgia.
